AMD FX 4100 good cpu?

For my first build I'm really considering the AMD FX 4100. I like the 3.60 quad core for only 119.99 (tigerdirect)
My main use is going to be gaming.

The above mentioned stats are listed from non-OC'd chips. With the i3 and dual core Sandybridge chips being locked the stats are meaningless. An OC'd FX-4100 will trounce the Intel offerings which are either next to impossible to overclock or pretty damm tough.
I don't know where you get your data but I think you keep overstating that Intels price competitive offerings are better that comparable AMD's seem skewed. For the price and coupled with a good GPU the AMD systems will play games very well. I speak from experience as I own and game with FX-4100. I have not had a single game give me problems while using this rig.

AMD FX-4100 @ 4.8GHz Turbo core still enabled
AMD 6970 GPU
8 gigabytes DDR3
60 gig SSD Crucial
SeaSonic 750 watt 80 plus Bronze power
Rosewill Full tower case
H60 Corsair sealed loop cpu cooling
Western Digital 650 gig sata 3 storage drive

With all that said I can't compare apples to apples because I don't own an Intel rig. I can only go by synthetic benchmarks and my own results.

Yesir no matter how high i clocked it still ran about where my old 925 did at 3.5
not to mention there were games that only ran on one core or crashed on launch.
as soon as i popped in the 980 everything booted and ran much better

I'm going to suppose that it wasn't the processor that had problems but a motherborad that didn't match well with the cpu. Could you list your specs and Memory speed ?

Im not going to post my specs to prove anything to you; the 4100 isnt beast and the issues i had i researched to find that i wasnt the only one with these issue. I jumped the gun on new architecture and wound up with egg on mah face and instead of trying to justify it and convince myself it was fast and i wasnt having issues i got the 980 be and it smokes the 4100 on an am3+ mobo; one made for fx.

So I must conclude that
1) I'm delusional and just imagining that my system is great

2) I got the good silicon and everyone else got crap

3) And I'm not insinuating, but I'm an exceptional system builder and mine works because I'm so smart

4) Everyone else set the bar so high for the Zambezi cores that nothing short of mind blowing fast will suffice as acceptable

I'm truly baffled at all the negative reviews and lack of successful builds. Mine performs flawlessly and exceeds my previous AMD rig which was a 965 BE teamed with AMD 5870. Both are great rigs, with the FX-4100 being the better.
