I'm building a PC and I was going to buy the GPU later on, but i've ordered an AMD FX-4300 and it's already on its way. Is it even possible to play any games with JUST the CPU alone? Or is it required to have the GPU as well?

For socket AM3+, usually cheap and lower end motherboards such as this one will have integrated graphics:

But If you are planning on playing games, steer clear from integrated graphics that comes with these motherboards. The only games you are going to play are browser games, if any at all. Older games.... very old games will work too.

The only decent integrated graphics you are going to get for gaming, are the ones from AMD APU's such as the A10-7870k. But APU's use a different motherboard socket.

Alright, thank you, I was worried I wouldn't be able to play any games at all. Or even use the PC until I bought my GPU.

I'm not going to be sticking with the intergrated graphics on my motherboard all though it does have it. I'm getting a dedicated graphics card later on, I was just worried about not being able to even USE my PC until I bought the GPU, thanks!

sorry for being a bit late right now but 😛
you can definetly run titles like Counter Strike Global Offensive, Garry's mod and a few other good games, I just upgraded from an FX 4300 to the FX 8320, it eats a lot more power, but it's such a better upgrade and don't regret it. and to answer your question, yes, you will still be able to play games with only the fx 4300, feel so bad for being over a year late to answer to this thread 😀
