i am planning on building a decent gaming rig to play games at 1080p. i plan to save on a processor to buy a more powerful GPU.so i was wondering whether it would be good to buy a AMD FX 6300 processor to go along with my NVIDIA GTX 970 for future proofing, i.e whether the fx 6300 will be handle to handle the future games for the next 3 years.

The CPU struggles with some CPU intensive games today. I think things will get worse in the future. Do you plan or want to overclock?

An Intel i5 based system will be better for gaming now and in the next few years.

and considerably better.

EDIT :SNAP

no i do not plan on overclocking. i had the idea that a less powerful cpu with a more powerful gpu might have sufficed, also my current motherboard would have supported the fx 6300.

The motherboard has 4+1 power phases and no heatsinks for the VRM. I would not run a FX6300 on that board and I would certainly not want to overclock it. You will need to overclock the FX6300 to play many modern games at useful framerates. If you are happy with 1080p low effects, then the FX6300 may work.
