Hi, I have an amd athlon X2 250 and it's realy slow and I was looking at the amd fx 6300 but I'm not sure if my PSU can handle an upgrade so please help me.
System: ASUS GTX 650
6GB of 2 sticks of DDR3 Transcend 1333 MHz RAM
AMD FX-6300
1 WD blue HDD
1 120 mm fan
M5A78L-LE MOBO
1 DVD Drive
and ofcourse an MS 400W probably not that efficient because it came with my case which is inexpensive.
Please help.

6300 will be a large upgrade for you. It is only a 30W difference in power consumption. You should be fine. If you plan to upgrade your video card, you will probably need to buy a more powerful power supply.

The athlon runs the FM2 slot. The 6300 runs AM3+ Switch to an AM3+ Motherboard before, or else it wont fit.

If that is her motherboard, then the new fx-6300 should fit.

Dome has a AM3 cpu, and also has a AM3+ motherboard.
You can not put a AM3+ CPU in a AM3 motherboard. But you can have a AM3+ motherboard with a AM3 CPU.

Everything should work. You may want to get a 500w psu to be sure that your old one wont die out.
