I have the above mentioned CPU and motherboard.
My PC case has two fans on top, one on the side, one in the rear and two in the front along with Be quiet! Pure Rock tower cooler. All of which are directed to optimise airflow.

I applied the thermal paste correctly as well.

The cooling tower was a bitch to fit onto my AM3+ MB but I managed to get it on there.

So my cooling tower, paste and airflow are all correct according to AMNY hours of research on forums, instruction manuals blah blah blah...

Yet the Idle temp is between 50-73 degrees celcius! I don't even need to start up Chrome as the only task running for it to go right up there.

Both Speedfan, Advanced systemcare and BIOS shows the same temp.

Lowering voltage in bios did not help.

Altering fan speeds did not help.

WTH do I do? I have not had any of my hardware for more than barely a year and I never buy anything second hand. So not that.

help?

We know the safe temp is 60C and below for fx8 cpu.

Also you may or may not know the MB has lower 4 + 1 power phase design, for the fx8 cpu, which it has the higher TDP 125W, you should use the a top-down blowing design cooler, like the AMD stock cooler. Check the asrock site, the cpu support list: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme4/#CPU

And if you don't want to change anything, try go into BIOS, disable two or more cores until the PC will run fine. Also may use the AMD stock cpu cooler. If you want to buy other part, like buy a 92mm-120mm aftermarket cooler like

But don't buy the new AM3+ MB anymore.

How exactly do I go about disabling individual cores in BIOS?
