Thanks!

"xKaniz" said everything , i5-4690K is the path to go, i already ownig that CPU right now, and its very powerful and good CPU running at stock speeds at 3.5GHz , and when gaming TurboClock Speed at 3.9GHz just , blows everything away. :)

Using MSI GTX 970 4G, this is the best Combo.!

Nice!
I'm using a i7-6700K with a 980 Ti, and I'm very happy with the performance 😀

AMD is definitely out of the game if you want to upgrade mainly for gaming. At least until Zen comes out.

Since Kaby Lake is shipping to OEMs without any fanfare, you may want to wait a bit to see what will happen after the 7000-series i3/i5/i7 stealth-launch.

If I had to build a new PC using what is available today, I'd go with the i5-6500 or i5-6600, depending on pricing. I don't bother with K-chips since I have had mostly poor luck with overclocking and I'd much prefer setting aside the $150-200 in extra cost (CPU + high-end motherboard + high-end cooling + fancier RAM + fancier PSU) for my next PC which will be ~100% faster than getting 10-20% better performance (and increased noise, temperature, power bills, etc.) today.

If hes getting an i5, he should OC it.
i5 4690K @ 3.9GHz = Beast 😀

i5-4690K at stock speed is best, what happen when u OC, it to 4.5GHz or 4.4Ghz??? = Biger Beast like i7. (not talking about Skylake i7)

AMD simply doesn't factor into the equation these days. Intel is the only game in town until Zen comes along.

If you're upgrading from an FX-6300 then an FX-8350 can be worthwhile, but only if you're on a low budget.

An i5-6500 and H170 motherboard will provide all the performance you need and the money saved can be put towards a better GPU. I'd take a better GPU over a better CPU any day.

Because its Legend 😉 and Legends never die, Skylake i5 , need new MB and RAM. cost much higher then Standalone i5-4690K.

its like i5-6600K is the Big brother and i5-4690K the smaller brother of the family.
anyway i5-6600k is better then i5-4690K yea but not really much diferent between them. They both is good cpu.

So, i set something up:

MSI Z170A Gaming M5 (for socket LGA1151)
i5-6600K
G.skill 16GB ddr4-2400
Gtx 960 4gb

Is it a good combination?

Uhm, I think I did...

The motherboard is already cheap (140 euro's) so i cant downgrade that more
i an downgrade the CPU, but which cpu is then recommended?

For gaming an i5 6500 paired with a 1060 will dominate an 6600k with a 960. CPU overclocking won't bring anything to the table paired with amid range card like the 960. With the 6500 you can get a cheaper H170 board and use a stock CPU cooler.

Ok i got something new:

MSI Z170a M3 (For socket 1151)
i5-6500
G.skill 16Gb ddr4-2400
MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G

Is that better?

Yes.

You could go a step further by opting for an H170 motherboard, but you'll lose the option of upgrading to a K series CPU. Personally, if you can afford Z170 now, then I'd go for it.

If you are going to burn $200 on a throw-away i5-6500 only to spend another $250 on an i5-6600k, it would make a lot more sense to get the i5-6600k in the first place.

Being in that in-between zone of "maybe possibly OC in the future" causes many unnecessary expenses and in a budget-conscious build, there are usually much better places to spend that $100-200 difference on.

Boost up the CPU to i5-6600K, and you'll be fine 😉

True, if the OP's sure that they'll want to overclock. They may venture down that road in a few years, or dabble in SLI. Going for Z170 now isn't necessarily a mistake.

I do agree that if the OP wants to overclock they should get the 6600K now, but not at the expense of the GPU.

+1 MSI Z170a M3:
4 x USB 3.1 Gen1, 2 x USB 3.1 Gen2, 1 x M.2 port, Realtek ALC1150.
And 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots: OP could add a GTX1080 next year for a dual-gpu DX12 build. not bad at all 😀
I cant see the i5-6500 struggling even then...
But if that happen a strongly oced 6700k (thanks to the z170 mobo) is not a bad upgrade path for this build (2017/2018)
