The i5 is better. Also, that FX 9590, that you listed, doesn't come with a cpu cooler, and needs a really good one to keep that space heater cool. Personally, I would rather have a 1231v3. Don't need expensive motherboard or cooling, and will out perform the FX, and perform similar to the i5 at stock speeds. In apps that use more the 4 cores, the 1231v3 would be superior to either. Just some examples. To keep it fair, feature wise, all boards are SLI capable.

Look at my examples above. It isn't actually cheaper. You factor in the the necessary cooler, it makes it the most expensive. The cheaper FX 9590, you listed, is an OEM chip, which means it does not come with a bundled cooler. The bundled cooler version is almost $300. The Xeon is a retail chip and can use its bundled cooler. The i5 4670k, is also retail, and only needs aftermarket cooling if you want to overclock. It also comes with a bundled cooler that is safe for stock clock speeds.

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

Yeah I run four - two Intel i5s, one Intel Pentium G, and one FX-8320. When I have the FX machine on, it can get incredibly hot at times, the Intels usually hover around 30'C - 35'C with very minimal cooling needed.

my last system (built by me) and my current system (not built by me, it was hand-me-down) both use AMD cores, and i will tell you rite now that intel is the better deal, while the B55 i use rite now is sufficient, and i say that with more than a hint of lemon, it will not be enough for the later 3/4 of 2015, and im only using it till about the 1st of april when i build a new intel based system.

i use your same methodology when i built my first system back in (god knows when, it was that long ago), i saw that the AMD athlon dual core processor (on the AM2, AM2+ socket) was cheaper than what ever the closest intel competition processor was at the time, for the same speed. while that logic did work at the time, these days your better off going intel for the better performance.
