How would I go around overclocking the 9590, I have adequate cooling for it however when trying to get it to 5ghz (in AMD overdrive) I can't get it stable, even when adjusting the voltage it won't let me adjust the voltage higher than 1.550v which still doesn't run my cpu stable at 5ghz, I tried turning the overclock down to 4.9ghz at the same voltage which still isn't stable, it doesn't crash like it does on 5ghz however it stutters a lot during benchmarking

So how would I go about getting the amd-fx 9590 above the stock 4.7ghz?

Actually I have an 8350 on my shelf, it's what I had in it before the 9590, would it be worth going back to it?

and you already know what the cpu is
gpu is Zotac gtx 970 x2 SLI
990fxa-ud3 rev 4.0 mobo
16gb hyperx fury blue ram
1tb harddrive (id get an ssd but i dont mind a slightly slower boot time)
and a cs750m 80+ gold psu

8350 overclocks much better.

On Air with a PH-TC14PE.

The FX-9590 is literally just an overclocked FX-8350, which is just an overclocked FX-8320.

There's almost no room to OC the 9590 further, and if you already had an FX-8350 there was no reason to get the 9590 in the first place.

wow that is quite impressive actually, so do you think it'd be worth going back to the 8350 for better overclocks?

also what are the temps of your overclocked 8350?

Well it was my first build and we all make mistakes, I should've really done my research first but what's done is done

Hope this helps even though its kind of late, but here it goes. A friend and I have almost the exact same setup as you with the exception that we have the cx750m psu, 32gb hyperX white 1866 ram, and he's running evga gtx 970 ssc in sli and im running evga gtx 960 ssc 4gb in sli. My 9590 is scratching 6ghz stable where as my friend can barely sustain 5.2ghz before crashing. the difference, the power draw on our gpu's. My 960's pull 120watts each where his 970's pull 150watts. He had to upgrade to a cx850m and is now getting 5.6ghz mostly stable (he gets artifacts in some games).

both of our specs:
NZXT Source 530 Full Tower
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 rev4
AMD FX-9590 OctaCore CPU
NZXT Kraken x61 CPU WaterCooler
HyperX White 32gb 1866mhz RAM
EVGA GTX 960 4gb SuperSC x2 (friend have 970 SuperSC x2)
Corsair CX750M 80+ Bronze (friend now has CX850M)
NZXT Grid+ Digital Fan Controller
1x Samsung 850 EVO 250gb SSD
3x WD 2tb 7200rpm HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (we're both waiting for Win10)
Both of us are running eight Fans and have case lighting
