Hey i just bought a new laptop for college the hp envy x360 with a amd fx 9800p 7th generation processor. I produce music in fl studio and have cpu issues and am trying to overclock my computer. On every website it shows my base frequency as 2.7ghz with a 3.6ghz turbo frequency. I downloaded amd overdrive but it says no amd processor detected or processor compatible. If it is not compatible then how do I increase my speed, I only want to increase it to about 3ghz.

Here is my laptop: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-envy-x360---15z-touch%C2%A0laptop-t5y05av-1

I second the fact that laptop processors are not suitable for overclocking.
You could try some 3rd party software to 'force' an overclock but you will reach your thermal limits very quickly.

However if you feel comfortable enough to take your brand new laptop apart, try removing the original factory Thermal Paste on CPU & applying some high quality Thermal Paste instead, this should give you a few degrees in temp difference to then play with some forced overclocking.

As for the Turbo Frequency, go into your BIOS and see if Turbo is Enabled or left Auto/Disabled?

Thank you for the reply I went through my bios and there were hardly any options and none about turbo boost or overclocking. I'm assuming its because of the stock motherboard. Thank you for the help, I may have to try taking the laptop apart.

No problem at all.
As you saw. Limited options in bios and this is normal for a laptop due to the heat restrictions. Don't get me wrong. There are solutions out there but they are less commonplace and more fiddly...

I wouldn't recommend a forced overclock. Too much of a risk for me personally.

QUOTE FROM FL STUDIO DEV. WEBSITE:
'The faster your CPU the more channels you will be able to run simultaneously and/or the more effects you will be able to use.'

Is this the reason why you want a faster CPU?

I can recommend a few other good pieces of software.
I use the following for my studio...

Sony Soundforge - excellent for sound modifications, effects etc..

ACID Pro - for full creation and completion (similar to FL Studio) of my music, importing the edited sounds I tweaked in Soundforge.

There are others but these 2 I highly recommend.

Hope this helps...
