Nobody is being suckered except those who buy products from a convicted criminal company like Intel. Intel has tried for 20 years to crush AMD and have a monopoly so consumers would have no choice. Thanksfully AMD did not allow that to happen. I vote with my wallet and I vote for AMD even if Intel's CPUs are faster. No one needs the fastest, over-priced CPU as any curent gen CPU runs just fine. AMD has always provided the best performance/value and they will continue to do so.

@beenthere there was a time when AMD sold processors for a grand as well.

I am going to wait, as much as I would like AMD to gain market share with something huge, I can't spend money without know what I am getting.

I don't really understand the whole my E-penis is bigger than yours thing most of you have going on. The person that can build the best rig for the least amount of money is the only smart one in the room. I'd rather spend less money for a CPU and use the extra money to get a better GPU or even a second GPU or an SSD. Buying the biggest badest Intel CPU doesn't really mean shit if you don't build up the rest of the system. Less powerful CPU + better GPU is better than more powerful CPU + lesser GPU for gaming. If you are not gaming then you really have no use at all for the best Intel CPU's in the first place for a personal system.

thanks for the anti-intel rant beenthere, doesn't solve anything though. i couldn't care less wether the company i buy from are criminals or not - don't get me wrong, i own both amd & intel & have owned others in my time too - but one thing i've never done is bought blind. i just think amd wasting time & processors on some silly overclocking stunt rather than handing out samples to reviewers & letting the public know the real figures is wrong.

Buy what makes you happy. If you have an ethical compass you won't support a criminal corporation who has done everything they could to exploit consumers.

You don't need to worry about spending your money with AMD as they always deliver the best performance/value. If you're part of the "small penis crowd" that thinks the fastest CPU, GPU or whatever makes you a better person then you get to vote with your wallet for what's right or for Intel. I'm fully aware that some folks have no moral compass and do whatever they chose without giving much thought to their actions.

sure the chip was cherry picked but still... for a multi core and 5ghz on air, Hope its not marketing BS

You're just a fanboy so whatever you say is worthless.

I'm one who actually doesn't care. I look to get the most for my dollar, and it's actually Intel that has done that for me. I use an i3-2100 that I got on sale for $99. There is NOTHING in AMD's line-up that can match a Sandybridge dual core especially for that money. Add some more money and for $150 - $160 you have a an i5 that crushes even the AMD x6 in encoding. Plus with Intel you get less power draw, less heat, etc, etc.

I want AMD to succeed as much as anyone, but don't act as if every Intel processor costs over $1000.

And once again, no I'm not a fanboy. If BD lives up to the hype it's going in my next build.

Also try to be realistic. If AMD develops a better processor than a 990x, you can sure as hell be sure they won't be selling it for 79.99.

I never said every Intel CPU costs $1000. I said Intel is a convicted criminal corp. It' not that I am a fanboy as much is I hate criminals like Intel. Intel tried to eliminate all competition so that consumers would have no choice but to buy Intel. They have been convicted over and over for their crimes and I refuse to support them.

Realistically no one needs the fastest CPU regardless of brand. Most people that buy the trick-of-the-week over-priced CPU/GPU do it for bragging rights because they have low self esteem and this makes them feel better.

What I post are the facts. Some folks can deal with reality and some can't. You have the option of voting for good or evil - it's your choice.

[citation][nom]Abdullahg[/nom]Definitely will be getting an FX-8120. I'm sure that thing will OC just as high as the it's other 8-core brethren. I don't care if they don't outperform the i7 2600k. As long as I can do 3D rendering and play CPU-intensive games very well with hopeful 60FPS, then AMD did their job for me. I'd rather take an 8-core CPU for under $300 than a 4-core CPU over $300 even if the 4-core offers the best performance. I want the best bang for the buck[/citation]Well that's exactly the problem. Right now, the 6-core Thubans can't run 60fps in top of the line games. They do no better than 4-core variants. I really hope that Bulldozer changes that...but I'll wait until I see benchmarks before I start saying a $300 AMD CPU gives me "the best bang for the buck".

Right now, the most bang for your buck is either the $75 Phenom II x3 720BE or the $210 i5-2500K.

"Less powerful CPU + better GPU is better than more powerful CPU + lesser GPU for gaming" -dheadley

I would disagree. Take 2011's Shift2 Unleashed (a recent DX9 game) for example. Developer (SMS) has stated that through deferred rendering and other programming choices, they are leaning more on CPU for graphical and physics computation cycles than before (compare to Shift1 from 2009, also a DX9 game by the same studio). I'm noticing a trend towards more CPU usage in modern games. An i5 2500k with a mid-level GPU is actually a better choice in my opinion. AMD quad cores simply don't cut it for today's top games, and the 6 cores aren't any better. And this is coming from an 955 BE owner! So hold your 'fanboy' accusations. I'm just providing my observations.

+1

About time that pre-ordering has happened,so we can see some real benchmarking of their amd bulldozer & not blindly buy, just because they have won the Guiness World Book of records this one time with a hand picked cpu.

Next you are going to hear about some drunk AMD employee leaving a bulldozer processor in a bar. And the cops raiding random peoples and walking out with their PC's.

I think his problem with your statement was that you are calling fact on what, by definition, would be considered an "opinion" of yours. Ever heard the expression "Nothing personal, it was just good business"? Any corporation not out to make money is called a charity. :)

If you think -any- corporation is "pure" and "good, you have obviously never worked in a corporate environment. Money drives the game more than concern for the customers. If you can improve a product or bring more "value" to the customer, that's great, but in the end you'll be evaluated on how much money you bring in for your business. Customer satisfaction is a moot point if you're bankrupt. It's a dog eat dog world.

Perception of value is another opinion, but do not assume because you may be able to get by on a Phenom II that it is good enough for everyone. Stop being a snob about it and pooh-poohing anyone who buys a computer more expensive than yours. If you're happy with what you have, be happy. No one can hurt your perception of value. Don't judge others or their perceptions of value. To each his own. People who live in glass houses really shouldn't lob processors at one another.

$266 for a 8-core processor @ 3.6ghz sounds like a bargain. Hopefully AMD can get back on their feet and put some pressure on Intel.

Maybe Intel will even have to stop selling a 2c/4t cpu that can achieve 3ghz as a 2c/2t cpu @2.4ghz - giving us exactly what we paid for.
