I don't think that they care about high end desktop beacause the market is too small. Mainstream and server is where they seem to target because it is where the volume for shipement is, and that means more money for them.

IMHO, until finances and economy get in control, they wont make any product that will not sell in large quantity to cover what it cost to make it. And to be honest, in the current state of the market, where tablets and mobile computing is selling well, high end desktop may not be the best product to invest in. Unless you have the money Intel have

That's too bad AMD bailed out on the desktop/gaming end of it. BF3 is too much on the graphics end for consoles to run, and console gamers that have never gamed on a PC before are building/buying desktop gaming rigs like there is no tomorrow. Intel must be making a killing from that.

I think we are at the point where the software hasn't caught up with the hardware yet.
Not too long ago pundits were asking "Are Two Cores Necessary?"

I'm not a big gamer, not an FPS junkie, and certainly not a Fanboi. More cores means more productivity. The idea of 6-8 cores in a home consumer PC for only a few hundred bucks is mind-blowing. Not too long ago you had to get a custom motherboard and terribly expensive processors to even approach that level of power......Skulltrail....
