AMD/Gigabyte vs. Intel/Asus combo - which is better bang for the buck?

Almost finished building my system. I see the following two CPU/mobo combos on Newegg:

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz/GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-UD4H - $308 (Link)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz/ASUS P5Q Pro - $375

Thoughts on which combo is better bang for the buck or just better overall? This will be paired in my system with a Sapphire HD 4870 512MB GPU.

The mobo in the AMD combo is better, the Intel CPU is better. As far as gaming performance goes, those two processors will probably put out equal numbers. I personally would go for the AMD combo. Use the extra 70 to save up for a second 4870.

Not really, you get what you pay for. The 940 is just better, worth 60 more dollars IMO, the Gigabyte board is higher quality too. That is a good combo for someone on a tighter budget.

940 Deneb is $20 cheaper as of today, too. Clear winner.

1. OK, X4 940 is the best, BUT is it smart to pay that extra for little advance... since X3 OC is preaty goot with games...
X3 720 BE is cooler and clocks a bit better.

2. It really depens what you do, only for games X3 720 OC is bang for a buck...
