[citation][nom]megamanx00[/nom]foolish fools.Well, I guess when you bomb really bad in your main market *cough* Bulldozer *cough* you look for other opportunities for revenue. Even so tablets are a low margin business and if AMD puts too many resources into it before they are really ready to compete they will loose alot of money. Of course, Dirk Meyer knew that.[/citation]

even if one could call a bulldozer CPU a failure, it doesn't mean it's over. AMD has had alot of successes and failures over the years, The Fusion APU has sold like hotcakes. i wouldn't call that a failure. it's still their main market. and AMD has two main markets, graphics and central processing. going into tablets would be a great idea, Nvidia is doing well, and AMD has CPU and GPU Strengths. a double bonus.

Failure? I think Not.

Decent competition in the mobile device world... Love it. Competition is great for the market, great for production, and great for consumers. I'd rather not sell my left nut for an apple tablet, nor would I prefer buying something that will die in a matter of months. Bringing more competition in this field will be great. My biggest complaint about most mobile devices is they lack power. AMD can bring plenty of power with their chips. Granted they didn't out perform intel in the desktop processor race, but AMD has always been good to their costumers. I look forward to the coming years of advancement in the mobile device industry. Apple's released so many I's, no wonder the world is filled with conceit.

Like it or not, Tablets are here to stay...back in the 90's Tablet fails because the technology wasn't ready. No proper OS, no App market, no internet like today and no powerful lightweight hardware. For average consumer use, tablet is perfect without lugging a heavy laptop. Furthermore, there's docking station for a proper keyboard. I don't own a tablet yet, but will look foward to buy an Ipad3 next year.

[citation][nom]rawful[/nom]I second that. I am extremely wary of cloud storage, gaming, or computing. I want no part of it. I don't trust it. I don't see how or why it is a good idea. I don't like the privacy risk, or the security risk. I just do not see a single upside to it.[/citation]

congratulations, you have never been in a fire and lost everything, and see no reason for an off site backup.

the cloud will be a great place to store all the old pictures i have, to store game saves, and other things that you just cant get back once gone. if you really think that a hacker gives a flying .... about your grandmas last healthy pictures, than you are insane, stop using the internet, they can get them from any connected computer if they want.

i say this allot, but the cloud will be great for an off site backup, but not as a primary storage.
untill faster than light travel and 100mbit up and down is the norm, the cloud will never be the main storage device.

[citation][nom]mobrocket[/nom]Tablets market will keep growing and growing...they are about worthless, so in america that means it will sell like hotcakesits all about marketing[/citation]

you never used a tablet before... so i can understand your view point. my mom has one, and i use it on and off, so i will tell you whats good about them.

i take the tablet, turn it on, and am on the internet in less than 4 seconds, out laptop takes 10-20 to turn on, and than another 10-30 for it to connect to the internet, and unless you are using a mouse, the touch pad is at least to me unbearable to use.

tablets are meant to be a point where you can connect to the internet, and in that respect, they are fast. they are more mobile than a laptop.

sure, under powered, and not as useful as a computer, but for just internet access, they get the job done and than some. and on another point, my mom has the ipad2, and it has a FAR better battery life than out laptop.

granted, nothing can take me away from my desktop, but if im in the living room, and want the info fast, the tablet is a great alternative.

-----------------

the first company that sets up a powerful server that gets accessed by a tablet like computer, with all the processing power happening on server, and only the display and touch interface, no cpu power, is in your hand, will probably be the be all and end all in the business world.

a whole building with no computers, just a server with many access points, far easier to manage im betting than 100 computers.

a restaurant, giving out tablets as menus, and not worrying if they break, due to them being sub 100$ a tablet (gorilla glass will fix most break situations though)

or home use, imagine this. a dvr that doubles as the computer. the dvr is almost always on, and can be the base station for the tablets, and could stream content to the tablets too. get a quad/hex core cpu, and you got 3-5 tablets and 1 dvr, get 2 hdds, 1 traditional for the dvr, and 1 ssd for the tablets. i'm betting this could replace most peoples computers without a problem. correctly build this could cost very little compared to having 3 computers a tablet and a dvr (the current setup in my home).

[citation][nom]alidan[/nom]congratulations, you have never been in a fire and lost everything, and see no reason for an off site backup. the cloud will be a great place to store all the old pictures i have, to store game saves, and other things that you just cant get back once gone. if you really think that a hacker gives a flying .... about your grandmas last healthy pictures, than you are insane, stop using the internet, they can get them from any connected computer if they want. i say this allot, but the cloud will be great for an off site backup, but not as a primary storage. untill faster than light travel and 100mbit up and down is the norm, the cloud will never be the main storage device[/citation]

I am not worried about hackers. Never have been, never will be. It's the corporations I am handing my data to. They are unethical, and untrustworthy. They have no issue selling personal or private information. They also, I am sure, will include tools that lets the government sift through your data and pictures, or whatever you have stored in the "cloud."

To those that HATE the cloud
Your e-mail, is the cloud
Web Pages, are the cloud
Torrentz, are the cloud.
Anything you download, is the cloud.

The cloud has been around since the early 70's and IBM CREATED it. (as400) This resurange is just marketing and regardless if you like it or not, YOU ALREADY USE IT.

yet THE CLOUD they want you to have is to have EVERYTHING did you get that EVERYTHING!!!! you have on there servers. e-mail already is a big security risk how much of a security risk so how will you think will it be when EVERYTHING!! is on a server somewhere when a bunch of script kiddies like anonymous are trying to hack into everything on the planet

but go ahead continue reading up on wikipedia trying to make yourself look like you know something :hello:

what's wikipedia? isn't it that non-factual thing that people can change and added useless sources to, while trying to prove a point, but not actually proving anything? If you don't want the cloud, don't use it. But if you hate the cloud and you completely against it, then stop buying into it and host your own email server, your own webpages that people visit(your own forums), make all your own movies and music and write all your own programs so you don't download anything.

Nobody is forcing you to use an online drive to store YOUR stuff. So if you end it using more of the already massively abundant CLOUD, you can only blame yourself. The simple fact is you...you NEED the cloud. Try to live without it.

Also I believe the largest target for cloud users will be start up business and small business. Hosting all your own stuff and paying someone 40k-80k a year to manage it (while most of them just play games and goof off online) isn't really a smart business choice these days. Not to mention if they newbie ruins everything or keeps all your passwords, you are screwed.

Now business owner X can have big business host their webpage, email and company files online. No pensions or benefits to pay for employee x, keeping costs down and giving more companies a change to spend that money on resources to make their business larger. Once business x gets off the ground, they can move it all over locally if they want.

As for home users... sicne most of them have about 10 virus or trojans on their computer, it's probably better for the mainstream. It helps everyone including mr and mrs don't know crap about comptuers I just like to listen to my records on tunesi

spoken like a true businessman. take advantage and risk the lives of the computer illiterate to make a profit

i can imagine that at lest for now, the government cant do much with the data as the power to process just isnt there, however i can see them developing tools, like a way to sift every uploaded picture to find missing kids as older kids, and things like that. and as for corporations, that's paranoia also, until they start doing something seriously wrong, look at facebook and all its crap, i consider none of that wrong, as its the price you pay for their service.
