you really must be an AMD fanboy if you thought AMD would even come close to beating Intel again

so AMD said it's giving up. yes i see it in the $300-$500 price tag of the intel chips already.
the mobile sector is where profit is at, yet AMD is purposely saying it's not going to pursue the mobile phone market. that's kind of interesting considering the licensing agreements they've signed with ARM. almost makes me think there is a non compete agreement.
i suppose it won' matter, it's not like i can plug my smart phone into a 27" monitor or my 55" tv and play crysis.
despite the fact that is where the future is at.

does any of these run x86 softwares/os? has any of these been benchmarked/reviewed/used in real world against x86? why do you think amd's bulldozer is arm-compatible or arm-capable, any proof of that?
wait for those to actually exist first.

+1 ^ -- I wish I could find a convertible laptop/notebook with an A8 APU. Even better if there was a mobile HD6670 to X-fire with the integrated graphics for a portable (mainstream) gaming machine.

Some of the APUs can X-fire with lower end HD6xxx cards. Check out the chart from http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/44338-amd-a8-3850-apu-review-llano-hits-desktop-7.html
For example, an A8-3850 + HD6670 = HD6690D2

So the competition is finally over.... OMG here comes the CPU monopoly!!!

Seems you guys are putting words into AMD's mouth.

Just because they have not "announced" plans to enter the handheld market does not mean the don't HAVE plans to do so. AMD has learned from the past that talking too much can lose you an advantage.

i was hoping for the "dead" 3DFX company to rise again....i still own their Voodoo 5 video card...right now. Sniffles. But now, in my current PC, i have the HD 6950. Sad. they had to turn away from Intel.

[citation][nom]schizofrog[/nom]Sorry, I do not wish to make an assumption on the point you are making. Are you saying the 9600GT was cheap or expensive? Are you actually comparing the original price against a modern card of the same price?[/citation]
I'm saying prices have gone DOWN for the same performance.

Intel advertises more and has a bandwagon that refuses to save money. Or buy a better product. These inteller's fail to see that amd has always been faster then intel. Amd has always offered more value. Amd has better features and more cache. Amd is the better deal, but somehow nobody is getting the message.

Without that support software will continue being optimized for intel and nvidia hardware. The main reason intel beats amd at all. Linux and other os's with amd usually out perform intel by x4. strange huh?

I'm buying amd for the rest of my life unless the company goes under.

It never should have been intel vs amd...But this is what consumers (ignorance and trolling)and retailers (high mark ups and biased false and negative advertiseing) forced on people.

There are more then 5 cpu producers...All of which could be competitive, if hardware and software developers made their stuff work with all of them, and not just 2 or 3. Motorola and cyrix both have multi-core cpu's out now. Why don't we see reviews and tests for these??? Oh, cause they put em in cellphones....ugh...::face palm::

wow the poster child of AMD speaks LMAO

THIS IS THE WORST NEWS I HAVE EVER HEARD.
we have had these two large competitors competing for better products, which has lead to mankind rapidly advancing forwards into a technological future. with a competitor out of the way, this advancement will slow dramatically. Intel now has the ability to jack up prices, and slow down the progress of advancements in processors.
The value of mankind just took a severe blow, as this might set us back years from where we could of had possibly wound up.

news like this makes Doomsday seem much more likley.

hardrive market takes a beating from natural disaster,
mass suicides over at foxxconn,
Large Earthquakes, floods, natural disasters.
Processor market gets onesided as AMD calls it quits.

Whats next?

with MS coming out with a version of windows for ARM there might be some desktops/laptops made using ARM CPU's. if that happens then AMD goes into dead last like always

I have to make a few points clear here.. depending on the architecture of the processors being compared, one processor might perform better than another depending on what is being run.. so in "Some" situations AMD was the better buy.
however the "Majority" of situations the Intel chips would outperform the AMD chips which justified the differences in the price.
the prices of the processors have been perfectly balanced, and priced exactly where they should be.
AMD was actually the one trying to Stretch the Truth to make themselves appear faster. for example their naming scheme with their processors. it seems shady and misleading to put "AMD 64 5000+" on a processor clocked at 2.6ghz. or 6000+ on a 3ghz.
AMD just released "bulldozer" a tweaked 4 core processor and is calling it a 8 core because they added hyper threading.

but yes i agree, in "some" situations, yea bulldozer might out perform some of the higher priced Intel processors in Winrar. but that's not what the "Majority" of users will be doing with their processor.
so i wouldn't call it a better product.

I don't want to come off as a Intel fan, because i'm not.. every build up to my last has been a AMD based system. but i'm not a fan boy either way. i buy what is best for my needs.. i wanted a computer i could use for the next 4 years, so i went Intel with this last build.. my first ever Intel build. i'm not excited or disappointed, i got what i paid for.

How awesome would it be if AMD was just playing dead to get intel to throttle back and then in a couple years AMD randomly drops a desktop chip that just destroys the intel offerings of the time...and releases it on AM3+ socket lol hahaha !

hehe yea thats the only thing AMD fanboi's can do is dream for the past 8 years and counting

I don't fanboi ***, my mobile has an i5 and my home server a Xeon. I just think it would be funny is all.

I don't think it's a matter of Intel winning anything other than bragging rights of the fastest "desktop" processor.

But alas there is a major push in computing towards UMPC and tablet computing and so far in that arena both Nvidia and AMD/ATI have a fairly large advantage over Intel with integrated graphics architectures.

I don't feel AMD is giving up at all, on the contrary. I believe it's a fairly sound strategy to out evolve Intel. Seriously in 10-15 years do you really think that desktops will be the standard?
