Good strategy AMD, let everyone else fight now and jump in later when you`re ready. They definitely need to solidify their marketshare in the PC market, and the new bulldozer/bobcat may be the turning point for them, i await next year eagerly.

[citation][nom]lashton[/nom]2011 should see AMD take the performance crown Out of order execution if done right will rip through Intels market segmnents like wild fire, think of a 1watt idle CPU thats 2-3 times faster than an atom with a 5xxx integrated chip, finally you will be able to play games on a nettop and have longer battery power![/citation]
This cannot happen within one year, possibly 2-3 years, but not in a single year. A highly powerful cpu that idles at 1w and can beat most current cpu's...easily possible due to hardware always becoming more powerful. A series 5 Radeon chip integrated within the processor? No, not within a year, we could maybe see as graphic cards use less power itself, but time will tell.

If they go in that market, they will end up with such a small portion that it won't be profitable, will dilute their profits and endanger their future. For now, it's the right decision.

Nvidia's Tegra 2 is phenomenal. Thank you ARM, good luck everyone else.

AMD doesn't know how to develop energy friendly cpu's.
They said the same thing about netbooks, but failed miserably with their neo processor.

Didn't AMD sell their handset division to Qualcomm a while back for some quick pocket change (~65 million) because it wasn't profitable? Just imagine if they kept that division (mobile 3d graphics & multimedia); they probably could have been profitable by now. But now, whenever they chose to, they will have to re-enter the market without a foothold(and someone else using their intellectual property)

Bad move I think. I've been saying this for a while (ever since people were getting all excited about netbooks). I have always thought Smartphones, not netbooks, were the way ahead for the mobile market. Just look at how fast/often people upgrade their phones (new contracts, lost phones, new tech, etc.).

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]AMD needs to compete with intel first. They haven't done a good job of that in a long time. Thumb me down all you want...truth hurts.[/citation]

Please educate yourself before posting garbage. Have a nice day!

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! get rid of that GE mood ad i nearly blew my ears off why play music an the f ing ad cam up and started playing the audio twice as loud as the music was playing WTF

its better than pumping out a stupid peace of shit that don't do the god dam f```ing whats it supposed to... onion news would say rob battery life provide weak performance and optimize users hatred.

Maybe you should do some research before you go spouting off "truth". Have you read any best CPU/GPU for the money articles lately? lol.

But thats the point. The only way AMD is competing is by having low prices and not making enough money to really branch out. Most of what they got from Intel paid off a lot of stuff and helped to push them into the black.

If you compare Intel vs AMD on a core pwer core and clock per clock level, AMD is losing by a large margin. If AMD was not, they would be selling for a much higher profit.

2011..... Lets see. So far the only thing coming out in early 2011 is Bobcat which will probably not perform as people think it will. Off the bat, Bobcat is a derivative of Deneb with a GPU attached to it. Now I expect the GPU side to do admirably but that depends on the GPU they choose to use. Right now SandyBridge with non finalized hardware or drivers is keeping up with a discrete HD5450 low end GPU. If they use anything less than that it might not perform as expected.

As for 2011, if the rumors are true and GloFlo can't get 32nm right fast enough, Bulldozer which is AMDs only chance to compete with SB at all will be delayed until intel pushes out their 22nm Ivy Bridge.

That wont be good. SB alone is showing about 20% overall over Westmere. If Ivy Bridge pushes out abother 10-15% and Bulldozer only keeps up with SB, AMD will be foreced to compete at the price/performance level and be stuck in a current cycle of low profits.
