No. You need two cards with the same GPU from the same company in order to utilizae CrossfireX or SLI. For example you need 2 770s (brand doesn't matter) or 2 280Xs (again, brand doesn't matter) but you CANNOT have an Nvidia card with an AMD card working together.

Why though? Does it have to be two of the exact same card? Or can it be two of the same company *such as AMD vrs Nvidea* ?
It has to be from the same company (AMD/NVIDIA), [strike]same manufacturer (ASUS, MSI, PowerColor, etc.)[/strike], and same GPU model (e.g. a R9 290X will be paired with an R9 290X).
NVIDIA also has a different term for CrossFire, it is called SLI
Crossfire is what AMD calls having two gpus work on the same task. SLI is the Nvidia term for that. AMD and Nvidia gpus are different, meaning they won't work together. In most cases you will need the same gpu (manufacturer doesn't matter). Make sense?

No. It only has to be the same GPU ( ie, 2x 770), you can use one Asus 770 and one MSI 770.
Crossfire has more options, ie. you can crossfire a R9 280x with the 7970.
