Should i get the AMD FX-6300 3.5Ghz for Casual gaming, or an Intel i3 around the price range. (I will also have to buy a new motherboard either way)

Solution
Currently, Intel dominates to the point I cannot recommend the FX-6300. I woud get a skylake i3 with a z170 mobo so you have an upgrade path, or better yet wait 2 months for Zen. If Zen is everything it's supposed to be, you'll feel silly buying anything 2 months before it comes out.

The i3 will be better for gaming. The FX will be better for rendering. I would say pickup the i3 6100 paired with a Z170 motherboard and some good DDR4 RAM as the i3 is only around £10 more expensive but will outperform the FX-6300 in gaming easily.

Personally, I would wait. AMD's Zen CPU is suppose to come out at the CES, and it has the potential to either lower prices of current on the market CPUs or be one you are interested in.

While there is always new technology around the corner, I am personally waiting for this to come out before purchasing my new computer.
