Hi all

I need some advice?my brother is upgrading his Gpu from a 570,He is looking at either the Asus Tuf Gaming OC 1660 or the Rx590 fatboy. They are both around $220 so that’s how much he can spend.

He likes the amd software for gaming and customisation as he only knows the amd software Not like hectic gaming he only plays 1-2 games. He had an issue with his previous card and is doubting the choices. I know it’s a power hungry card with high temps.I read that up but he has good case cooling,5 fans including 280mm radiator. 2 Intakes and 3 Exhausts. He’s specs are r53600 16gb ram 750wPsu B450 Tomahawk

Is the rx590 a good card and will it support dual gaming?Personally there’s so much controversy on the two brands but I guess everyone has there likes and dislikes. Just want to make sure he chooses the right card.

Any help would be great

Hi,

I would honestly go for 1660 as it is one of the best cards for its price, but I don't see why he is upgrading from the 570 because the performance is similar, My suggestion is this, Sell the 570 on eBay for about 100$, add that 100$ to the 220$ budget and you got 320$, then go on eBay and buy an RTX 2070 thats is better by a mile than the 570. The 590 is a good card and I understand your brother likes the AMD software, But take in hand its not about the software. If you have a look at user benchmark comparing 2070 to 590, even on average 2070 is way better than the 590 and thats no doubt. The link to the comparison is below. It may be hard to find 2070 for that price but on Facebook Marketplace or on eBay you should be able to...

If not 2070 try 2060 because it is still better than 590 and way better than 570. If you are going to go for the 2060 then go for the SUPER version. Thats my suggestion.

ye he had an issue with his card,he had it for 6 months and he actually got a refund for it because it was deemed faulty. So he got around 120 back for it. I totally understand what you mean I think nvidia is the way to go.

I will have to persued him.Let me look on eBay and check to see what they have. What brand should I looks at and is there a specific model as not all the 2060 super are the same in terms of features and clock speed?

I will show him all the benchmark comparisons and I’m sure he will go with your choice.

Thank you for that I do appreciate it. Does a higher clock/boost speed make the card better for example say one has a clock speed of 1830 and a boost clock of 1860 will that be a better card than one which has a clock speed of day 1700 and a boost of 1730? I saw a 1660 with a higher clock speed than the 2060 super how does that make sense though?
