We have had several requests for a sticky on AMD's yet to be released Piledriver architecture ... so here it is.

I want to make a few things clear though.

Post a question relevant to the topic, or information about the topic, or it will be deleted.

Post any negative personal comments about another user ... and they will be deleted.

Post flame baiting comments about the blue, red and green team and they will be deleted.

AMD's 2013 Roadmap

amd2013rdmp_dh_2_fx57a.jpg

* Steamroller is completely MIA.
* Piledriver for AM3+ continues throughout 2013
* New 3rd Gen APU "Richland" in 2013 based on Piledriver and Radeon Core 2.0 (?). No word on what process it's being built on.
* Kabini/Jaguar appears to be on track

i can only see the last post. the rest after 10/11 seems to be gone.
edit: i opened the thread from the right hand column and can read the whole thread along with the 'missing' posts. dunno if it'll work again. :)
@chad's post: iirc richland was desktop trinity a4 series apus' codename (a8 and a6 being trinity and weatherford respectively). the chipset code name bolton, matches the currently available info. in that roadmap slide, richland is referred as '3rd generation' apu which i think is steamroller was supposed to be. or is this the earlier rumored trinity update before sr apus come out. i don't know what to belive with these 'leaked' slides/information lol.
edit 2: okay, right hand column doesn't work anymore. so i took esrever's (thanks btw :)) tip and changed this section of the address
'&page=75' (this is where it seems stuck)
to
&page= <current page number, seems to be 82 now>

Could I get a link to that laptop?

I thought that TSMC was already working with a 20nm process?

I gotta admit with the release of AMD's piledriver is the right step in the direction; but I personally think the next following release steamroller will be crippled by the am3 + socket.

If amd wants to continue on the line in cpu development, they would have to use a new socket or an existing socket to help them accomplish in the evolution of the cpu line.

For example "1207 socket flip chip style" which is currently used on the amd operton line, considering amd phenom II x6 cpu's core is a derivative of the operton line.

Amd current core kicks ass on multi threaded apps, if they switch to that alternative socket; it will give them breathing room to help mature the development on the cpu's weak single threaded executions, power consumption, transition to the smaller die, and more.

Sales on Vishera seem to be strong for AMD, surely higher than expected given the viral marketing from the competition. With Win8 looking to be a quite successful launch, AMD will likely have a fair bit better 4Q than expected.

Please tell me more about this "viral marketing", sounds intriguing.

With Win8 looking to be a quite successful launch

It is surely too soon to be making this call and with it being mainly of use as a tablet, phone & laptop O/S, how will this be of much help to AMD?

On the desktop, it offers very little for users and is in my view, likely to fare worse than Vista here.

with any, AMD will likely have a fair bit better 4Q than expected.

Vishera is a nice improvement over Bulldozer, it will be interesting to see if this results in increased marketshare, at a time when the macro conditions for the economy is in poor shape.
