Hi all,

I have an AMD R9 270X OC edition, and recently it has been giving me problems like having fuzzy squares and stuttering for 1-2 seconds during games and when watching youtube. Here is a picture of the fuzzy squares taken via screenshot (http://i.imgur.com/sCtGV6w.png).

I have tried to narrow down the possible causes and hence I swapped another HDMI cable and downclocked my GPU's memory clock from 1400 to 1260, but alas the problem still exists.

The strange thing is, when I first bought my card, the stuttering happened and so did the fuzzy squares but a simple update of drivers via the amd catalyst application totally solved it. What is weird is that the driver version did not change, yet out of a sudden these problems are back. I have seen other threads that said it might be a particular windows update, but when I noticed it I tried uninstalling windows update 7 days before but it didn't solve the problem. And besides, the problem can happen merely half an hour after I turn on the computer, which means it isn't exactly heat-related? I'm not too sure.

Can someone out there help me with this? Thanks a lot!

Well, the artifacts usually appear because of a too high temperature. Check them with HWmonitor. Try down clocking your main GPU, if that doesn't help, you'l probably have to give it back, or bake it.

P.S I really mean baking it.

I tried downloading the utility you just mentioned, and the temperatures are normally around 39 degrees celsius. Even when I game it rises to about 45-ish, no where near 50 degrees celsius. I'm wondering if it is due to the auto fan profile in msi afterburner (it's a MSI GPU), but when I launch a game and look at the temperature graph, the increase in temperature is quite slow and steady.
