AMD Radeon™ R7 M270 4GB DDR3 - what is it?

Dell laptops appear to come with the AMD Radeon™ R7 M270 4GB DDR3 graphics card. However hard I search i cant seem to be able to locate any benchmarks for the card or even seem to find that it exists!
Any help would be great thanks.

I found info from AMD on the r7 M260, M265X, and R9 M270X (http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/notebook/r9-m200#) . Did you verify the card model yourself, or just the included system spec info, maybe there is a misprint. Check with Device Manager or dxdiag.

I find it so weird that AMD doesnt even mention it on its website (at least I cant find it)

I thought it may be a misprint however the fact that its 'R7' is posted on every single laptop there - for reference;

Hi guys, I specially signed up for this conversation. I am from the Netherlands i want to purchase this notebook (New Inspiron 15 7000), but I do also have this question. So i called some people @ Dell and had two chat sessions, but they treated me like a dog.... At first they saw the graphic card for the R9 by not reading well, in the end the answer is they work with OEM-parts. When i do say there is no information at all at AMD, they closed the chat session??? Fortunately I got automatically an email from the conversation because the staff are just so rude! They do not understand that my buying decision depends on their answer. But at the end, my question is still unanswered. I do have for years Dell desktops and notebooks, however, they make it impossible for me to buy any new one. Dell's customer service is totally different than a few years ago!

And yes, I do have the names of the employees, but I am not that rude and low as they are.

For your information, that is a special graphic card specifically for DELL's Laptops only. I have asked customer service about the performance of the graphic card, but yet they still cannot give me a single explanation other than' better than the previous r7 m265'... just assume it is an upgrade version of r7 m265 then.

FYI. I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7548 laptop. I've had it 10 days. I got an email 3 days ago from Dell saying there was a "system error" and my computer does not have the AMD Radeon R7 M270 4GB DDR3 graphics cards, as advertised. Instead Dell says it has an Intel HD Graphics 5500 graphics card.　I have a option to get $50 back for their error or send back the computer within 7 days. I'm not a gamer and don't plan to watch many movies on the laptop, so I'm not too upset. Others might be, so I wanted to share. I also cannot determine the difference between the two types of graphics cards.

The question about graphics cards remains unsolved. Nevertheless, your DELL may NOT have this card, as promised.

I contacted today with Dell support just to ask the same, and I was answered with a laconic "we don't have that info" (!) Imagine that... I really hope it's a modified R7 M265 (DX12) and not an older R7 M270 (DX11.1). My Inspiron 15 5000 is arriving in 15 days, and I am already regretting my acquisition :-/

Hmmm. When I look at the Device Manager, it shows BOTH the AMD Radeon R7 M270 AND the Intel(r) HD Graphics 5500. How do I use the Radeon card? (When I go to display and ask for drivers, it shows the Intel card)... ???

I was curious about these cards, as I happen to have a fresh out of the box 5 series i7 inspiron laptop with one so I thought I would run a FurMark benchmark.

It runs FurMark at 11fps, at 720p - which is pretty ludicrously poor. This puts it at about the same as Intel's HD 5000 graphics (or for a dedicated card - ASUS GeForce 7950 GX2 [these were top of the line ten years ago]). I can only assume it is in there for dual monitor set ups. If you run inventor you are in for a significant wait.

In summary, I ran a quick test - card bad, not surprised they arent bragging about it.

I have the Dell Inspiron 15 7598 model from Best Buy. I can play Starcraft 2 at medium settings on on external monitor at a good 60fps. If I try to use the HD display it runs to sluggish, and there are also problems with sizing (Ultra HD display) because Starcraft 2 cannot handle 'text and other items' at anything above 100% (which the Ultra HD display needs to run at 200% to 250% to make it readable).

You can choose what programs run on the card using the AMD switchable graphics settings.

Have you tried making sure that GTA is using your AMD card? Look at switchable graphics settings. Also, make sure your power mode is set to 'balanced' instead of power saver. I am using an external monitor at 1920x1080 resolution, if you are using the dell's monitor, have you tried lowering the resolution to 1920x1080 or lower?

yes it's using the AMD card and the power mode is also at High performance and because it's a FHD display if I reduce the resolution from 1920x1080 the game restarts in a small window.

Right, try lowering the screen resolution to 1920x1080 and have the game be 'full screen'. Otherwise, you will always have a hard time running it in high resolution.

I also have the Dell Inspiron 15 7548 (4K display) and the AMD Radeon R7 M270 4 GB DDR3 card. The computer does also come with an Intel HD graphics card 5500 - I'm not an engineer but I believe the Intel graphics "card" is actually an integrated graphics area on the Broadwell I7 (5th gen) processor. Anyway, that aside I want to share this experience with anyone contemplating this system. I'm not a gamer but I use Photoshop Creative Suite 6. PS allows the user to designate which graphics processor they want to use. Theoretically, the discrete AMD card should provide better hardware video acceleration than the Intel card. That's not the experience I'm having. When I enable the AMD card, photos hang up while loading from the RAW converter and take minutes to load. When I switch to the Intel graphics processor, it loads quickly/immediately. I suspect this is a driver issue/incompatibility with Windows 10, but until Dell provides a newer driver, users will be stuck. My computer is brand new and came with Win 10 preinstalled and I had hoped that Dell would have worked out the bugs - guess not.

Had the same problem here.. looked in the device manager.. turns out the AMD drivers aren't installed and so the card is not activated but the laptop uses the internal intel graphics card..!!!!

clicked the AMD card in the device manager and chosen 'update driver' which now seems to have solved the problem..

Had the same problem here. Found both the AMD and Intel graphics card in the device manager.
Turns out that the AMD driver wasn't installed properly and therefor the system was using the internal Intel card..

clicked the AMD card in the device manager and chosen ' update driver'.. new drivers installed and now it seems to have fixed the problem..

looks like dell has updated drivers on their website.. download them..
