This is interesting:

PowerColor company representative reported that the video card series radeon HD 69xx will ensure an increase in speed above the recently released radeon HD 68xx by 30-50%.

Great cards for the buck but they really did pooch the naming scheme here. Besides confusing customers it gurgles a bit of anger from the old school people who have seen the latter generation with the same sub naming scheme perform better (religiously).
Everything about these cards are great but rightfully the 6870 should be a 6850 (or lesser) and the 6850 a 6830 or lower. Other than telling AMD to keep with the GD theme, that's my only complaint.

Dear Mr. Angelini

Although we all appreciate your articles I fail to understand the logic governing your choice of benchmarks.

How are we supposed to compare graphics cards if your reviews are based on random selection of real life benchmarks while the whole charts section is 2 months behind with a recent update adding 20+ PSUs and a bunch of fans to the list?

Where are Crysis benchmarks?
Where are Stalker benchmarks?
Where are Far Cry 2 benchmarks?

Take a look at your article about Radeon 5850 for reference.

once again you keep try'n to push the nvida trash...they are nowhere near as good as the ATI cards... still...the credits n workmanship on a card goes to ATI(your reviews show this)just cause nvida drops the price does not make it better...ATI can play the same game...is nvidia owned by Intel?

AMD is going to be keeping the HD5700 around a while longer, most likely with a refresh and rename to HD6700. That's why they needed HD6800 for the Barts GPU's. I wish reviewers would stop making comparisons to HD5800 because that's the line of cards that HD6900 replaces in the lineup. HD6900 replaces HD5800. HD6800 replaces HD5700. HD5700 and everything below it will likely be refreshed and renamed with an HD6000 designation before too much longer and moved downmarket. The number of cards currently existing below HD6800 will also likely be consolidated to maximize profits from the cards that will remain. I expect to see from 1/4 to 1/3 of the current parts in those segments to disappear in the reshuffle once AMD gets the top end sorted out and is able to get HD6990 out the door in quantity, which seems to be their priority at the moment.

There's going to be another big reshuffle after that next year when 28nm comes online, so you can be sure that most of the HD5000 line will be gone by then and any that are left over will follow shortly thereafter as new HD7000 parts are introduced and some older HD6000 parts get pushed down the line or phased out.

I recently bought the Radeon HD 6870......WOW... what a great card and also for a reasonable price. I never thought that I'd switch from Nvidia, but with the pricing and performance on the new AMD 6000 series I became a total AMD fanboy. We could all argue all day over which brand is the best. It's like BMW and Audi fans, you stick to what you know, grew up with, your personal taste and that which suit your needs. The product you buy is only as good as you use it, I mean playing sims 2 with a 6870 is like pushing a Bugatti Veyron. I personally think that AMD and Nvidia are more or less equal when it comes to the GPU market. They innovate and push the limit for technology and with that revolutionize the gaming industry. One day game designers are going to be challenged in creating games that give us a very close to real life experiences, and when this future happens AMD and Nvidia are going to be the companies that makes it all a reality. Both these companies are the pioneers of the gaming future, yes Nvidia is more expensive but like I said it's taste that keeps consumers going back and buying the same brand. For those two companies it's about competition, money and always having something new, for us gamers and hardware junkies it's about performance and having the best kickass PC. To conclude my long post about this..... AMD is AMD and NVIDIA is NVIDIA, both are great companies and both unique. We as consumers can just sit back and watch as these pioneers design the future of gaming...and ofcourse we get to enjoy their creations😉

[citation][nom]Anonymous[/nom]In reference to the chart on the conclusion page, how can a "minimum" be more than an "average" in the same test?[/citation]

Very simple. You need to pay close attention to the chart: it's not raw frame rates here, it's percentage relative to a single card's results.

I 'm very disappointed with my new Diamond Radeon HD6870 1GB, replaced my Nvidia Ge force 98GTX+ 512mb. I believe my Ge force is faster than this radeon. Sorry but Never again will I buy another Radeon, how can they degraded this card to be slower than the HD5870. The 1 GB of GDRR5 doesn't help it either. If you are going to but a middle range card stick with the Ge force 470 GTX which beats the Radeon HD 6870 and cost about the same.

[citation][nom]Poisoner[/nom]I think AMD did a great job with these cards. Its just sick at what performance you can get for 200 bucks.[/citation]

Not to mention better efficiency than even the high end 4000 series.

I just managed to pick up an hd 6870 on ebay for $147 with free shipping! ebay can be risky but it says it's brand new wrapped in the package? it's and xfx card! I'm hoping for the best! 😱)
