It's a good price. Now that it's been benchmarked we know that it hovers between the Radeon 6950 and the Radeon 7950 in performance. It's slightly alarming just how variable it's performance was in Germany Tom's benchmarks, but they were beta drivers so it may improve. At stock it will probably more or less match the 7950 unless AMD decides to bring it down artificially. However, it doesn't overclock as well as 7900, so the price difference is still justified if you overclock.

All of the benchmarked GCN cards overclock extremely well except for the 7850 which is just too buggy and unstable to work right now. It might work by the time it is released.
 


Actually, no they won't make history for that because the 7970 and then the 7950 have the first 28nm GPUs. The 7970 was the first to have a 28nm GPU. These cards aren't even the third and fourth, that honor goes to the 7750 and 7770.
