I have been successfully connecting my old laptop (which uses nVidia) to my Samsung TV. Now I have bought a new Smart TV and a desktop computer so would like to use my TV as my computer screen. My new desktop has the AMD Radeon HD 8400. When I first attached with a VGA Cable (as I had in the past) it worked for about an hour, then the screen went black and said 'Mode not Supported'. The strange thing is that the PC had identified the TV as a Samsung and knew what ratio and refresh rate to use already. Now it works for a few moments only and then goes black again, every few moments I get the image and then it goes black again. The same thing happens when I connect with an HDMI cable. I have tried every combination possible with the TV settings and it ends the same way every time.

I'd be grateful if anyone's got any ideas on what to try next.....

Thank you James, I had managed to check/change the refresh rate and resolution to the correct settings before I lost picture. Great idea about using remote desktop though so I can fiddle with the settings again. I was trying to avoid buying a new monitor and didn't know what to do with my old TV but I guess it's not going to be as easy as that! :-/
