This announcement is exactly why I grew to dislike AMD back in the late 90s, early 2000s. I recall reading several PC Magazine print ads where AMD's entire 4-page color spread was AMD logo'd scantily clad female models with CPUs, or tough guys holding guns looking like cool gangsters, with text like "Badder than the baddest". "We'll blow you away with savings." "Get the girl of your dreams with AMD". They knew Intel was better, so they marketed to those who couldn't tell the difference. Now they've beaten Intel, so they give us real data and skip the fluff. But they can't beat Nvidia. Yet.
Perhaps they're being smart. Laying low. They know they can't beat Nvidia so they just give us marketing terms to satisfy investors. They have amazing CPUs, and know it, so on the CPU announcement they threw their numbers and stats at us to prove they've beaten Intel.
Hard to beat two giants at once. Nvidia might not have mainstream CPUs, but there's a good chance the CPU becomes less and less important over time. All in all, impressed with their success and excited for the competition. Just give us specs and numbers we can work with and don't waste our time with worthless announcements that are absolutely meaningless.
