any guess what will be answer of AMD RX 460 from NVIDIA, can i expect equivalent card from NVIDIA below $150.

Thanks

Solution

RX 460 will be sub 75w card. so far nvidia haven't reveal much about their chip covering this segment yet. i think they will let AMD launching RX460 first before properly counter them.

even that actually still considered as rumor. so far there is no official statement from AMD that they would release Vega by the end of this year. the way on how they talk about polaris almost seven months ahead of launch i think AMD would at least releasing more info regarding Vega if they going to release them soon.

if RX 460 will slower than 950 then 950 is good choice. i thought RX 460 will beat even 960 or equal performance.

it will depend on how aggressive nvidia want to be with sub 75w market. in the past this is one segment that dominated by AMD due to their power efficiency. with kepler generation nvidia was able to tie their position against AMD in this segment in both power and performance. they take the lead with 750Ti with AMD have no answer for two years plus but instead were discounting their $200 270X to $150 to compete directly with 750Ti. sometimes i was thinking did AMD reveal that polaris 11 was able to output similar performance to GTX950 in january as a mistake or not? i know AMD try to build people interest with polaris 11 by showing polaris 11 to perform like GTX950 without the need additional power from power supply but i think that prompt nvidia to make GTX950 75w edition. what's more they were able to do it without sacrificing too much performance of the original 950. if AMD want to win this market they need RX460 to be faster than GTX950 or else if the performance is about the same nvidia only need to drop 950 price to compete with AMD.

drop price of GTX 950 could be answer from NVIDIA without any huge effort :)

Expected price of GP107 will not able to do direct competition with RX 460, unless they offer same price range, but looks more chance of GP107 in Market for RX 460

it is well known for nvidia to go for more profit instead of under cutting AMD. just look how it goes between 1060 and 480. and when 750Ti first comes out they say the card is quite expensive for a card that only operate with PCI-E slot alone. but then again AMD have no card that as power efficient as 750Ti that can compete on the same performance level so nvidia was confident to sell 750Ti for $150. if GP107 based card end up faster than RX460 then it will be more expensive. though i think the one to be look out for probably RX470. spec wise it is not that inferior to RX480 but the price/performance will most likely it's strong feature.

Finally RX 460 in the store. in this price tag no card from NVIDIA can beat it. better performance than 750 ti but more power draw. could anyone still recommend other NVIDIA card to buy under [strike]$170[/strike] $160 ? or should i wait for some more time ?

looking how AMD showing how polaris 11 able to perform as fast as GTX950 back in january (they even hinting the final card can even faster) RX460 should beat GTX950 consistently in all games. AMD will try to lure in buyer with their price but nvidia can also cut the price of their existing product to compete with RX460. also depending on going deal GTX950 can be found as cheap as RX 460 like this one:

cheapest RX 460 i found on newegg:

i will wait some time for price down from NVIDIA side, for now [strike]huge[/strike] good amount of price gap between GTX 950 vs RX 460 + RX 460 is highly power efficient

And that's exactly what it does... in DX12.

I find it quite odd that AMD decided to scrap two of the RX-460's cores when the fully enabled core would already have been half as fast as the RX-480. I was expecting the RX-460 to be a full Polaris 11 and the RX-450 to be the crippled one. If AMD does not release a fully enabled RX460 variant, it will likely come around as the RX560 next year.

back in january AMD show polaris 11 to be as fast as GTX950 in DX11 game (star wars battlefront). so people actually expecting RX460 to consistently match or beat GTX950 in all DX11 games and will be further ahead in DX12. some GTX950 can already be had as cheap as RX460 so nvidia probably will not going to rush out their new sub 75w part.

I personally don't care that much about sub-75W and would be far more interested in sub-$150. It is merely coincidence or convenience that most modern sub-$150 GPUs are also sub-75W.

We'll see if and when the rumored GT1040 materializes. I wouldn't be surprised if it landed with a $150 launch MSRP, just like the 750Ti.

the GTX950 that i linked to was the 75w edition. so efficiency wise they probably only slightly behind RX460.

depends on how competitive they are in performance. if they significantly ahead of AMD RX460 they will be price as such

my thinking => AMD already killed own cards 360, 260 to competitive with NVIDIA, i don't think NVIDIA ever will do this to benefit consumer

what do you think happen to GTX980Ti when nvidia put 1070 MSRP at $380? i was like :ouch: when i see 980Ti (MSI GTX980Ti Golden Edition to be exact) priced the same as R9 390X (asus Strix version) at my local stores.

AMD isn't pricing its entry-level low out of the goodness of its management's hearts either: it has lost half of its GPU market share over the past few years and low-end GPU sales are being hit the worst by faltering PC sales, so AMD has to price the lower-end of its range aggressively to earn back some market share.

Zen is going to be much of the same story for CPUs when it launches.

I just read that in the US the GTX 1050 (not the Ti version) will be in the low $100's. Check prices.

Right now, Oct. 29, Newegg has this RX 460 for $89.99 after rebate.
