problem with althons (K7) was if the fan did stop and the mobo did not have auto shutdown on overheat it fry and thats how most of them ended there lives (as i found me Abit had an hidden auto shut down as my heat sink fell off {i did not fit it} and it still worked after it put it back on)

the AMD64 or semprones (754 or 939) that will just not happen the system will power off and will not turn into an blob on your motherboard as it has auto power down

65 cpus should be cooler as well (sell my X2 3800+ to get one if i shows better results)

other note stop bashing guessing that this cpu or that cpu will be better gets boring read
 
I've read that AM2 is just a stepping stone like 754 and that AM3 is where the real magic will happen as DDR2 and DDR3 may pin compatible in the final specs and AM2 will just be K8 with a boring mem upgrade. AM3 will supposedly be something much better with K8L onboard.

Lol, Srry TechnO, Its not America'n Delivery You should Be Blessing, Its Canadian, Some Indian Guy Owns it so he put this service just for his Mcdonalds and this Mcdonalds and you have delivery if you buy something over 25$Canadian. Its pretty much a worthess deal cuse ur just basically getting a Delivery of something worth like 32$ cuse they add 15%tax+2%for delivery. So your basically paying for delivery :cry:
 
Funny Why dose it seem I fix more intel then I do Amd? When Presscott was around why did people complain on there light bill. Then telling them to change to Amd and there light bill drops? Also let look at Amd servers. Less power.

Face the Facts Intel and Amd Fanboys. There Pros and cons of each CPU and another fact is 5% to 10% not a major change in speed. I Think 20 years ago 5% to 10% was a big deal. But we could see a change. Now It like eh 10% nothing. I like to wait when there 50% change. Then buy a new system.
 
Shoot, I wait until there is a really big difference in speed to upgrade if the computer is not broken or otherwise unusable for what I need to run on it. It better be double the speed and very noticeable before I plunk down a grand or so. I guess I can't rationalize spending the money when I am a student facing huge professional-school bills in the very near future unless the upgrade is a very large performance boost. I'd say going from my old 2.2GHz Pentium 4-M laptop to my current machine (see sig) was a huge boost. But it took about four years for the performance increase vs. price to reach a reasonable level for me. I think that unless you're a gamer or do REALLY high-end stuff, 3-5 years is about the right lifespan to expect from a computer.

I guess I try to get performance more by optimizing the OS and software rather than just throwing more dollars at it. The biggest performance gains in software is to be had by simply cutting the crap out. My old laptop ran as fast as computers that had a lot better hardware simply because I took the time to turn off unneeded daemons and services, was careful about what ran in the background and when it ran, and also twiddled with the ACPI settings to make the CPU's frequency scale in the manner how I needed it to for the situation it was in. A fast CPU that has a bad throttling governor will run poorly (the Pentium Ms that are stuck at 600-800MHZ most of the time) but a slow CPU with a well-set one will give as good of performance as it can for both throughput and battery life.
 
You know what I just realised? I LOVE PRESLER!!!

For $209, you can get a P-D 920(B1) which can be clocked up to 4.0Ghz easily and match the performance of 2.8Ghz X2/Opty/FX.
A X2 3800+ is $301 and only be clocked up to 2.7Ghz.

Now that sh!t was funny! Wow Wusy, I thought you were an educated man, I guess I was giving you too much credit as well.


With the A64 capped at 3.2Ghz, it only takes a decent watercooled 930(C1) to take it out.

AMD already admitted defeat a while ago in their interview.
AMD's 65nm is just trying to close the gap to Intel.

AMD was keeping right up with Intel @ 130nm vs. their 90nm, same goes with AMD's 90nm vs. 65nm, now when AMD reaches 65nm, Intel will be foced to use 45nm and have to double-time to 32nm to keep up, oh and of course they have to slash prices on their less-performing CPU's as well.

AMD never admitted defeat, AMD stated it was caring more about the Mobile and Server market, because the Desktop is owned currently by K8 and Conroe, as much as everybody loves those Intel benchmarks, still can't keep up with K8.

I have always found this line of thinking to be hilarious! OC'ing an Intel just to match the performance of and AMD product. Effing A cracks me up! I love it!

Intel has always looked down on AMD and they are paying for it right now. Like it or not Intel had to move to 65nm first to keep up with AMD. I am sure AMD had 65nm but waited to do it justice.

Intel rushed and put Prescott out and now it's a joke like Paris Hilton making a CD. A rushed project to reclaim market shares is always a high risk. Intel is putting a lot on 65nm and now AMD has said I got an ace as well.

Sorry for Intel this may be a bigger mistake then Prescott in the end. Because all the talk back in the day was oh and Prescott is better then Jesus. Now I can't find a single person who feels that way.
 
Hot doggies!! Lotta screamin' rigs out there. All the sudden my lightly OC'ed 4400+ seems remarkably mundane. But I still love her, even if she doesn't glow like a pile of embers.

Software has not gotten better because of microsoft. Since win95 windows has gotten better, but my dos computer never crashed, running an AMD 486, windows 3.11 never crashed, my old mac classic didn't crash, my amiga didn't crash and the graphics on that were svga in the 80's. Games have gotten prettier, office productivity software has gotten way bloted with not many more useful features, there are some but not as many. I could do as much, just about as fast on my 7mhz Amiga 500 as I can on my 2ghz AMD system.
I would say software has gotten worse because with the huge increases in speed programs can much much less efficient.
 
Intel fan because they make good products and nothing has ever gone wrong. AMD, my neighbor had two Athlon which went puff up in smoke when his fan quit working. My cousin down in Sacramento Cyrix also went puff up in smoke also. Yes, there are 3 factories of Intel here close to where I live and yes I will support them. Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssss! I await with anticipation for the Conroe. The world has seen the IDF results and AMD is running! My P4 3.2ghz runs just fine. Game just fine.

The competition is good. Cheaper for everyone. I just like the bigger company like Microsoft. Without them, software would still be in the stone age.

I would have to partially agree, in my experience, the CPU has made almost no noticeable difference in gaming for me, its almost ALL the graphics card. And also you said "Intel," and "fan," in the same sentence :lol: :lol: :lol: .
 
I am not in a vaccum. Games look better now than they did, but they sure aren't any funner. Word doesn't do anything that text type pro did on the amiga. I suppose I could make a bigger file because you can only do so much with 512k ram, but with as inefficient as current software is I don't think that it would be anything useful, after all I usually only have to type 10-20 page papers, not 1000 page encyclopedias.
What software would you say is better?
I would say that Starglider 2 on the amiga was a well written program, svga graphics, about 10 hours of play if you play it linearly, but you didn't have to play lineraly, 3d graphics and great play control that all fit and could play off a 1.44mb disk. New games that have to be played in succession now take up multiple gbs of space. I know graphics are huge, but aren't those being rendered on the fly unlike sprites?
 
Intel has always looked down on AMD and they are paying for it right now. Like it or not Intel had to move to 65nm first to keep up with AMD. I am sure AMD had 65nm but waited to do it justice.

Intel rushed and put Prescott out and now it's a joke like Paris Hilton making a CD. A rushed project to reclaim market shares is always a high risk. Intel is putting a lot on 65nm and now AMD has said I got an ace as well.

Sorry for Intel this may be a bigger mistake then Prescott in the end. Because all the talk back in the day was oh and Prescott is better then Jesus. Now I can't find a single person who feels that way.

I HEAR THAT! Just as Intel rushed Prescott, they also rushed dual core, simultaneoous 32/64bit processors, and will (most certainly) rush Conroe to market...all to maintain market share...since summer 2005, Intel has taken to defensive and diversionary marketing tactics to bolster sales...I've said it before, Intel suffers from the big-company-throw-money-at-it-and-make-it-better mentality...which is shame, given their resources and talent, with proper forward thinking out of the box R&D, they could truly put AMD in the backseat...at this point, Intel needs REAL innovation, and that means more than increasing the FSB and L2 cache.
 
humm... if they really want to rush Conroe to maintain their market hype, then they should've released their "wonder machine" by now, given the fact that Conroe performed outstandingly in IDF.

makes you wonder what intel is really doing now huh...
 
More than likely they're waiting for AMD to release AM2 to see how it performs so they can tweak Conroe even more.

IMO, since they've already won FX by more than 20% margin, and M2 tests shows it may only have a performance gain of 5%, wouldn't it be wise to release conroe now and take more consumer market before AMD releases their M2? since almost everyone is on the hype, would it be really nice to release this "wonder-machine" before the hype dies?
