So just purchased the Acer Ultrawide 34" freesync monitor.

8350 amd cpu with r9 290 water cooled

So got everything running and the r9 is really struggling to play even decent settings at 40fps or above. I want to be in the 60 to 75 fps at max settings

With all the talk about parcel coming around the corner should I wait or go with the Fury card?

From my research amd isn't gonna target the high end with the new cards coming from then but more mid tier "unlike Nvidia with the 1070 n 1080 cards"

My thought here is i can sell my r9 with liquid cooler for just above 200. Fury is around 650 so my upgrade really only comes at a 450 price point give a take a few.

Except you will still be held back by the 8350. What resolution are you trying to play at, the 290 Should not be struggling that much.

I wouldn't waste $650 on a Fury X right now, the new AMD cards are not going to be mid range only, I'm not sure where you read that but the CEO of AMD herself said she does not want them to be known as "the budget option" anymore.

I should rephrase, AMD isn't gonna launch higher end cards right away, it will be geared towards entry level vr and laptop type from my reading but I could be wrong

The 34" is a 2k monitor ultrawide, n i can get 60 to 75fps but I have to lower settings, test have really been done on the Division, and a few racing games such as project cars and a few others. Witcher 3 and Ashes of Singularity

N will I really be bottleneck by my 8350 at 4.5hz? I was under the impression I wouldn't be,

On games that have a CPU bias yes. And on games that only run single core because the single cores on the FX processors are not so great.

That said the Fury X would help you, 1440p is a bit much for the R9 290, but it will run anything you want at 1080p with the highest settings. The problem is if you do get a Fury X it will help now, definitely, but you will still run into issues with certain games, that will eventually get worse as processor requirements get higher. That said you should still get some decent time out of it, just depends how much you want to spend.

Usually when I upgrade my gpu I like to stay close to 400 range, and I have seen 290 water-cooled like my setup go for 200 to 220 and I would bring me to my 400 range to u, just don't want to do that if AMD bring something out that will compete with the 1080

That's what I thought but I have read Nvidia users using this monitor because it was 300 cheaper then the g sync verision.

Thanks for the input, i might wait 2 m, watch the price on the fury/updates on AMD to see what they respond to tackle the 1080 but I have a hunch that they won't tackle the higher end just yet as they will want there fury cards to compete a little longer
