AMD Vs INTEL Oc

Whats better guys...? AMD athlon ii x4 640 OC`d @ 3.3ghz-3.6ghz......or Intel i3 540 OC`d @ 4ghz?? ive read that the dual core will out perform the quad in some ways, so which would be better... for example... running a ps2 emu? both systems have same ram/ graphics card etc..so its just down to the cpu...which..??

try getting an i5 it should do 3.7Ghz easily and beat the athlon interms of performance

The i3 wins this one. However ps2 emulators like A LOT of cpu power so maybe getting a little upgrade for that i3 system won't hurt (socket LGA1156 chips are dirt cheap on ebay anyways).

Ps2 emulators usually like fewer faster cores but i am not sure if they have updated pcsx2 to a better version to support more cores however a cheap i5 can be bough of ebay used (1st gen) dont think of anything less then the i5

pcsx2 Now has the ability to use 4 cores. core 1 and 2 for rendering the game core 3 for rendering and other stuff and core 4 is audio and whatever core 3 can't handel. That is if i read the update notes right (thats what I got from it).

if you gaming alot, so i3 will be better for you, 4 threads is enough for 99% games today. Intel's core always out performance AMD's core.
If you planning to do video rendering, or something like that, AMD is a better choice with more core for same price.
So the performance of multi-thread is faster

ok sweet guys thanks for the info, went & tried it out on both systems...no difference that i could notice, i do like the idea of an i5..i really do, but i guess ya get what ya pay for these days, i got my amd in a combo with mobo, hs & ram was like £15 more than the i5 seperatly & i needed a new board anyways...was running an old acer t180 with a amd 6000+ on air, was warm lol but was given a gigabyte h33...something board & wasnt sure if worked, ordered a stick of ram for it & the new mobo combo, both came at same time, turnt out the freebie worked, so now i sit here thinking "did i just waste that cash on amd, when shoulda just crossed my fingers with the free mobo & dipped in for the i5 & ram" & from what you guys say, its that the amds up there, but intels that bit better...
