Agreed. This question doesn't even make much sense. It's not specific enough. Are you talking about the companies? If so, in what way? or the processors? do we consider price? what models should we compare? etc, etc, etc.
The answer is simple. They need each other. They both become greedy companys when they are on top. They both become innovative and consumer friendly when they trail.
It's like the "mac vs pc vs linux" thread a while back. which also didnt make too much sense.

Yep. AMD would have easily priced Thuban or Deneb in the $1K down range if it beat out Intel easily. Its just like how ATI would price their GPUs higher when they ruled the relm (9700-X1900). Its normal.
