Which is better for gaming? I currently have an x4 845 i bought for 80. This guy is selling i5 750 for 50 bucks on craigslisrt. Which is better overclocked or not

Solution
The x4 845 is newer in theory, but based on older architecture. Clocked higher
It's by no means a powerhouse.

The i5-750 is older (launched in mid 2009!) and clocked lower, but it's probably a little more 'fit for purpose'.

Considering the $50 investment to buy the CPU, not to mention a new motherboard being required............I don't think there's a clear winner when all aspects are considered.

I'd stick with the x4 845 if you already have it & the appropriate motherboard.

If not, there are better options available.
They're probably roughly evenly matched, the i5 is much faster per clock, but clockspeeds are low. Good luck finding a motherboard for the 7 year old i5 though.

Ideally, you'd get an i3 6100, it's a lot faster than either at $110, draws half the power, is on a non-dead platform (2 more generations of CPUs will be released for 1151) so it will have an excellent upgrade path. Both i5 and Athlon x4 are basically the best CPUs you can get in their sockets (close enough) so if they're ever too slow, you'll need to replace practically the entire system... with a socket 1151 board and CPU.
