The main purpose and field of action for these new Threadrippers will be rendering workstations, as this is the type of massively paralleled work that benefits the most from the ultra-high core count of the Zen4 cores.

The performance gains in video transcoding were rather unimpressive, which might be a problem of the Handbrake software that might not be optimized to make full use of the Threadripper compute power - but I am just guessing here.

I'm going to assume its handbrake not being able to use all those cores and it will need an update.

Handbrake itself isn't at faut, it's the encoders it contains that don't really make use of more than 16 threads or so.
