If you want to go into politics, then you had better know "Independent" is not a party. It is actually designating people without a party.
It's funny. Neither the Green party nor the Libertarians have any representatives in national politics, and those are the most powerful of the "3rd parties". We haven't had a competitive 3rd party since before the Civil War.

Oops. I saw the thread at the top of the forum list, and I was intrigued. And yeah, I was mistaken in saying that Independents are a party. I have a tendency to classify them like this because of Joe Lieberman's and Bernie Sanders' exposure, even though these two men have a tendency to vote democrat. Also, by go into politics, I mean that I want to join the state department and work in the Middle East.
