Are amplifiers manufactured to insert between the computer and the speakers to increase the volume capacity of the speakers?

Solution
no.

unpowered computer speakers are only very low power (2-5w) and are powered from headphone jacks just fine.
powered speakers have their own amplifier included in them and do not need an external amplifier.

hooking up an amp to try and push the speakers past their limits could damage them.

amplifiers are meant for hifi/home theater speakers/hifi headphones and the like. if you're looking for something with more volume than pc speakers i'd start looking at getting better equipment.
