I am planning to get a new pc for most probably 720p gaming or even 1080p in the near future
Which one of these processors should i pick up for the best possible gaming results and will games like witcher 3 which require atleast 4cores run well with the g3258

Solution
Try to play GTA V,Witcher 3,BF4,AC:U and other games that need allot CPU power with G3258 and tell me will you see 5% FPS difference.
If you plan to upgrade later like next year or around xmas then go with G3258, if you dont plan to upgrade then go with nice mobo and FX 6300 and later get cooler to OC it.
Id go for the Intel g3258 its the way I went with my new beast. nothing out there is really using anything more than 2 cores/2threads and wont for awhile now and by the time games and other software starts taking advantage of more cores you can quickly and easily pop in an i7. I also have a system running an AMD FX 8350 and my g3258 either matches it or is just barely behind (3-5fps). another option is to pony up now for either an i5 or i7. sadly amd has been IMO making poor CPUs for the last few years. they've been targeting the bargin bin all in one type crowd (APUs???WHY ITS CALLED A VIDEOCARD FFS) maybe their next generation of processors will win me back over but who knows

The Pentium G3258 is cheaper, more consistently overclockable, and has a negligible (less than 5% difference) FPS-wise even compared against the i7 4790K. Spend your money on the GPU and buy the cheaper Pentium G3258.

This is true. It all depends on what games you play. I play GPU-based games, so buying the Pentium makes sense, and I can pop in an i5 4690K down the road (for 3 times the price) or an i7 4790K (for almost 5 times the price) if I need to later.
