[citation][nom]twelve25[/nom]While I do think Apple stuff is generally a bit expensive, does anyone think it would be a good idea for a business to sell products for anywhere near what they cost to make? I would hope Apple would have at least 50% markup. News flash, companies make money buy selling things for more than they cost! Not to mention, the top tier product always has a bit of luxury tax built in.[/citation]

50% profit margin is reasonable (even a bit high...Intel gets crap over it). Apple is asking for 70% profit margin here.

Ummm, apple charges about 200-300% more than other computer manufactures do and its all because of scam advertising designed to take advantage of easily manipulative people. $1600 for a dual core 4gb ram 128gb laptop that cant be modified or fixed by the end user, pc's cost about $550 all day for those specs using the same EXACT parts and manufactures. Their OS tech is the only decent part of the company. Its a flat out crime, JUST like the banks and wall street, and it SHOULD be punishable by law. But its whatev, as history will show lies, deceit and manipulation carry HEAVY repercussions and apple will fail, and it will be miserable at best.

I don't have a problem paying an additional $100 for the 128GB model. Apple's entitled to make a profit on that additional ram upgrade. I don't think $65 more profit is too much.

in all honesty, people pay for what value they think they are getting. so nobody is overpaying. if you feel like youre about to overpay, chances are you wouldnt purchase it.

Who says what profit margin is reasonable? Any responsible company owes it to their shareholders to get as much profit as possible. If people will pay 70% markup (on just the flash) then sure, why not? And again, I would bet it is more like 50% markup for the actual flash and another $50 just because it's the best they offer.

Ridiculous assertion. Honest apples to apples (ha, a pun!) comparisons will find Apple charging more like 10-20% more than the competition. Try it and see, being honest and using things like an SSD, IPS high-res screens, slim form factor, etc.

Let's be honest, Apple isn't the only company who charges way to much money for a little bit of extra RAM. It's wrong for ALL the companies to do it.

Guys I've been looking at their website and I think I've found that their 'Mac' computers may also be overpriced, can someone else do the research and confirm please.

Apples are overpriced? That's too bad.. i like apples. Oh you are not talking about the fruit. Well unless its the fruit i don't give a damn what apple costs.

The Nexus 10 charges $100 to go from 16 to 32 gig. That's a lot worse.

The problem is, people do not think enough. It like everything else in this world.
a $150 or £150 pair of Nike`s cost about a third of the shelf price to make.
The fact a lot of people, who just hand it over, makes them get away with it.
If you stopped buying things at silly prices and took the time to think.
Then there only option to sell whatever it is would be lower.
It is up to you to simply make sure that happens, by not buying the product.
Even then the company`s would not make much of a loss considering they are over priced would they. Sadly too many people don`t think enough driven on by a brand name or there own self sseking some sort of status rights, fool hardy.

Virtually every vendor does this for every upgrade option. Customize any big-name computer option and go from 6GB base RAM to 12GB--it's about a $180 upgrade cost, yet a 12GB RAM kit only runs around $75-85.

It's the easiest way for computer and device manufacturers to generate profit. Nothing new or newsworthy here. And sadly, people will still pay for these upgrades.
