Fun responses to many things in this thread...
1.) Baron, you say you can't be a fan of a company and that buying products is essentially the way you show support. I thought you loved the 4x4, but you didn't buy it...hmm...
2.) Actually, I try to stay away from Sony, since they're a pretty messed up company in terms of business ethics (same reason not to shop at Baron's true employer...Wal-mart). If they come out with an incredibly nice quality product, then sure, I might be interested. But apples to apples, all things considered, I won't pick Sony. That's personal preference, though. Currently there's no comparison like that with AMD and Intel. With Core 2, you ARE getting a much higher quality product, so the choice is clear. Hopefully Barcy makes things interesting.
3.) I can understand why Jack left. He wrote some of the most fantastic, in-depth, thought provoking technical posts. To write those and then have to post clean up posts to each of Baron's posts in order to protect innocent visitors with real questions was taxing, I'm sure (remember the best way to store a chip thread? Taking Baron's thoughts seriously could actually end up financially harming people).
4.) Penryn before Barcy should not happen unless Intel really wants to kill AMD. Considering Penryn vs Barcy actual tests and demos, Penryn seems leaps and bounds ahead of Barcy. But Intel's outselling AMD everywhere right now, there's no reason to launch a new product (until they push prices too low, of course). We should see Penryn launch the day after Barcy. AMD should just "launch" it now. We all know by now that when they "launch" any product, it means "in 3-6 months you may find one". That sounds in line with current projections
I've been around awhile (low post count, true, but check out that join date - don't be fooled though, it's not because I post really high quality posts infrequently...I post mediocre long posts infrequently), but I'll still kick around, no matter how many Barons, MMMs, Meltdowns, or other interesting and deluded people we get on the forums. Although, there's not much reason to poke around lately as silicon news is pretty dead for awhile. Plus, it's incredibly warm and sunny outside! Get out of the chair!
