Hi guys,

In my search for a BD writer that does it all, I've come across the LG WH14NS40, however, there is also a BH version (BH14NS40). I can't really tell of any differences other than RoHS (not sure what that is exactly), and also, it doesn't say whether it does or does not support LightScribe.

If anyone can please help me with that information, I would really appreciate it, I've listed the LG website comparing the two below. Thanks again.

The difference between BH and WH are the Firmware Revisions. The BH drive is their newest firmware.

RoHS is "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" directive, and it is another one of those environmental laws, about what materials can be used in manufacturing.

From what I can tell neither support LiteScribe.

Just if I can pick your brains once more..
I've searched to buy the BH version online in Australia and have found it on both ebay.com.au and shoppingexpress.com.au

The prices only differ slightly, but the images shown are a bit different. Is there a variation within the BH versions themselves!?

And last, but not least, atm, I'm pretty sold on the BH LG, however, if anyone else knows of a later model BD writer that supports BDXL and also supports LightScribe, please enlighten me.

More than likely the pictures are just "stock images" or a general picture of a similar component to give an idea of what the drive looks like.

The BH is definitely the one to go with.

The only BD drive I know of with Lightscribe is this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106348 But it doesn't support BDXL I don't think.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I needed to clarify.

The BH14NS40 and WH14NS40 are the the same exact drive. The *only* difference between the two is the BH version comes in a retail package with software and a SATA cable.

The stuff about one being "newer" is utter nonsense. The BH designation has nothing to do with "newer firmware." The latest firmware updates for these drives came out the same exact day (1.01-A1, on April 23rd).

Some reviews suggest the included software with the retail version is rubbish. If that's the case, your best bet is the WH14NS40, since it's usually found much cheaper. Either way, the drive itself is great.
