I am the owner of a new Pixel 4 XL and have been getting used to it. One thing that has thwarted me is its overbearing intrusion of emojis and cartoons in texting. I bought this from Google and am currently using it on AT&T network.
I was able to suppress the emoji suggestions that were inserted into the scrolling text feeds. So far so good.
But I have been thwarted by the text message bar. The part where the auto complete is putting up a word or phrase to help you along.
If you type "wrench" it shows a wrench emoji in the suggested auto-complete. If you type "house" it does the same thing. I would like to keep all this cartoon stuff from getting in the way of my texting. It makes me feel like the OS designers are trying to appease a gaggle of 13 year old giggling girls rather than provide a texting tool that adults might want to use for a variety of purposes including work. And in addition to making me feel that way, which may or may not be ageist, the cartoons also occupy valuable space on the auto-complete bar.
With google I found these instructions, and they are only a couple of weeks old:
Go to "Text Correction" in the Google Keyboard settings, then to "Add-On Dictionaries". Install then uninstall "Emoji for English". That will remove emoji from the predictive text and auto-correction.
But when I do Settings>System>Languages and input>
I don't find anything. I have found no "add-on dictionaries" at all. Perhaps I'm in the wrong branch but I have nosed around.
Any suggestions appreciated.
