Android phone doesn't read new SD card

I bought a new 16 Sandisk SD Card but my phone doesn't recognize it. By recognize, I mean it doesn't even show up anywhere.
I tried to put it in my laptop and it worked perfectly there.
I checked the class of my SD Card and it's the same as my old one so it should work fine in it.
My phone supports 32 GB of external storage. My old SD Card is also 16 GB so I thought that buying a similar 16 GB SD Card would work fine but it didn't.

Can you please help me solve/fix this problem?
Thanks 😀

On the phone, go to settings > storage. There should be an option to format the SD card.

If the option doesn't appear, you'll need to format it using your computer. If your computer has a memory card reader built in, which most now days do, then great. If not, you can pick an external one up for about $5 and even return it when you're done if you really feel like being cheap 😛

Insert the card in the reader and open My Computer. It should appear as a "removable storage device."
Right click it and select format. In the little window that appears, check the quick format option, and select to format it as fat32.

Once it's done formatting, which should only take a minute or two, you can put it back in the phone and you should be good to go.

Make sure you right click it in My Computer and select "eject" before removing it though or you could end up with a corrupted SD card and wind up having to buy a new one.

Doesn't work. I already tried this before posting this thread.

You might be right. I tried plugging in my broken SD Card to see if I would still get the "Damaged SD Card" message and I'm not. Do you know any ways on how to fix a broken sd slot?
