So my PC is randomly crashing and it's getting really annoying. It did it originally when I had windows 7 - did the free upgrade to windows 10 and it continued. I don't remember when it started or remember if it was after any specific hardware addition either.

Recently did a fresh install with a new windows 10 home 64 install hoping to fix the issue. NOPE - still randomly rebooting. I also upgraded to an SSD drive and all new ram (upgraded from 6 to 16). Limited installs too. It started basically right away so I don't think it's software related. I see memory corruption in the mini dump but I don't really know how to read it - plus all memory is brand new.

I also had a slow boot issue with win 7 and after the win 10 upgrade - sometimes it took 30 minutes to reboot. That is now gone with the fresh install thankfully.

Computer is an HP Pavilion p6347c. When it's running it's smooth and smoking fast. The BSOD happens randomly too. It even happens when I'm at work not even using it! The last 4 mini dumps are attached. Reliability xml export is also attached. I can't see a pattern other than it looks like I get windows defender updates AFTER each crash. However there are defender updates everyday even when the computer doesn't crash so I don't know if that means anything.

Last 4 mini dumps attached as is the reliability xlm export.

I looked for a bios update but it doesn't look like there is anything new available. Also read about some possible video card issues related to BSOD's (mine is on-board) but no updates for that either. Thought about getting a new card but I'd hate to throw parts at it randomly.

I really thought the fresh install would solve the issue. :-(

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I followed the instructions on post 8 here - (https://www.tenforums.com/graphic-cards/11630-ati-radeon-hd-4200-driver-64-bit-windows-10-a.html) - I never had any control center to begin with so nothing to uninstall - But everything else went ok - then did the update driver deal where it did a bunch of stuff, flickered the monitor a bunch of times but it ultimately looks like I have the same 8.9xx driver. Where is the new driver located for me to select?

So I think I was able to update the video driver but still no changes. I also removed a usb hub I was using thinking maybe that was funking things up - no changes there either.

However something interested happened today...but first let me describe in more detail what happens during a crash. Typically I'm listening to music and when the crash ocurs I hear this wickely annoying sound while "windows collects some info" before rebooting. The noise, I'm guessing is the last sound right before the crash, simply repeated over and over and over while windows does its thing. It stops as soon as windows reboots. If no music is playing at the time of a crash windows does it's "info collecing" in silence! lol.

Well today I was using the computer as normal and BOOM I hear the noise - but instead of the usual BSOD and info collection I am able to use the computer as normal - nothing actually happened except for the funky audio. For 6 - 10 seconds the noise is going while I'm using the computer as normal - it then recovered from whatever happened and music returned to normal.

I did update the audio drivers (per this thread) but could the on-board audio actually be the culprit? Is there a way to disable the on-board audio?

Thoughts on this new revalation? lol
Thanks,
Mike
(I know, I know the PC is old just get a new one - but with new ram, a new SSD and a new copy of windows it's the principle of the matter at this point haha)

I don't think the noise is caused by audio drivers, it just uses speakers to escape. The noise is common as often when you crash it makes weird noises through speakers

the cause of freeze could be anything... yes, I am not being very helpful.

Well ever after chatting with MS and having them take a look they decided that it was a windows 10 compatibility issue. Which is annoying because everything "checked out" ok when it told me to upgrade.

Anyway, I was figuring it was a hardware problem but went ahead and did a fresh windows 7 install for the heck of it and it's still rebooting. Had to bite the bullet and get something new.

I got a refurb partial barebone i7 - with my 16gb ram and the SSD it's smoking fast! Really, really nice to be able to get some work done (graphic design) w/o a reboot! ha.

I still might do some more playing around with the old setup - like maybe booting into a mini XP or some other sort of virtual Windows environment just to try to narrow it down - but now that's it not a "must have" - diagnosing could be fun compared to wanting to stab myself in the neck when it reboots haha.

Thanks again for all the suggestions...
Mike
