Hi
I know that this subject has been rather beaten to death lately, but I was just wondering about lower-end card preformance on Oblivion. I am trying to sell a new X700 pro AGP 256 to my friend, who wants to be able toplay oblivion. Will his system with this card at least handle 800x600, medium settings @ ~28 FPS?

His system is:
Intel 3.0Ghz
1gb PC3200 (or 2700, can't remember) RAM
300W PSU
new X700 pro AGP 256

Thanks,

Yes it'll be fine at those settings.

He'll even be able to use Bloom. However all systems get brought to their knees at some point. He may find he get a few dropped frames near the various gates where there's alot of activity and effects being rendered.

But overall, yes that should do, I'm running about the same (WS version) with my Mobility X700 and the PentiumM 1.73ghz.

I have a 3700+ system with a 6600GT (128meg/PCI-E), and I've resorted to buying a new GPU. It ran okay on my system w/ things turned down, but everytime an enemy was struck down the system would pause for a moment, and the overall experince left me wishing I could have more. Don't even get me started on going outside in the world.

BTW, I even tried running 640x480... now THAT was retro... reminded me of Duke Nukem days, lol.

yeah I have that same card and I run oblivion @ 800x600 and (some of the settings I can remember) all water stuff, reflections, ripples, window reflections on, I had to kill the grass/tree shadows because when anything came at me outside I would get hella chopy fps but all told I get nothing below 30fps which is as low as I am willing to go.

As you can see here;

The X700Pro gets great framerates, almost double the GF6600GT, more than the GF6800 and 6800GS, and even more than the X1600Pro, which kinda surprised me.

Very enlightening those figures. too bad they didn't run two differen apples-apples runs at lower and higher settings so scaling could be easily determined (are even the lesser cards being somewhat CPU-bound?
