My budget just depends on how the summer goes for work really. I'm not planning on replacing the MoBo + CPU until maybe late October (basically when Win7 comes out).

If i was to do it today though, i would go with that combo Newegg had/has, the Asus MoBo + 730BE for around 200. Hopefully pricing and options will only get better as the year goes on though ; )

Everything i am doing now to my build is stuff that i can keep for a long, long time. The case, the fans, fan controller, etc.

I think i saw somewhere in a post on here (toms) that some MoBo's will support AM2+ processors even though the MoBo may say just AM2, is there any truth behind that?

That is true BUT it is not worth it in the long run, and this works with some AM2 boards, not all (ddr2 controller will not function at 1066Mhz).... in the end its better to wait and buy something that will last you, as opposed to installing old hardware on current parts....IMO...

Save up as much as you can and buy something that will make you happy, you will not regret it later on down the road......

Did you do some cable management in the case? How is the case for cable mangement? I got this Elite 335 case from Coolermaster a while ago and used it for my P4 rebuild. Sad thing is you can't hide wires behind the MoBo tray, I have to hide the wires behind the HDD and Optical drive bays LOL

Yeah, i'm not in a huge rush. My pc does just fine for what i use it for. I'm interested to see where things goes in the next few months anyway.

I know intels i5 is due soon... amd doing anything other than the 965?

Using a 300, the cable management is not that bad, it just takes time.....much easier if you go modular IMO

The only issue I have with the 300 is that there is no hole in the mobo tray to route the 4/8 pin power connector, so you have to make sure your PSU cable is long enough to reach the connector w/o it gettin in the way of other hardware, lots of peeps just have the cable across the whole board and that looks awfull.. specially if you have a clear side.....

So if you take your time with the cable management and buy a 8 pin power extender you should be fine.....

The 300 has a compartment on the right hand side(when you take the panel off) where you can stuff all the cables....

Yes it does and I will show you why.....

Without the extender, see how it runs across the side of the video card?

Here is the cable routed on the right hand side WITH an extender :

Naa, I know what you mean... But having the PSU on top is not a bad thing, it all depends... Some like it on top some like it on the bottom...The only reason I like it at the bottom is due to the fact that the case (overall) has a lower center of gravity (harder to tip over)... So it is more balanced..

I'm looking to upgrade my Antec 300 to something bigger and better, I really want a case that has flawless cable management like a Solano :

I guess for the price you can't go wrong...Of course the case will be modded and will have a different look to it....

Yeah, for my build I really wanted a Antec 300 but it made it just out of budget with a Corsair PSU.

Do you think its a good idea if I add a 40mm fan to my NB and a Chipset HSF to my SB? Both are running extremely hot and I've read that LAN and other components can fail if the NB or SB is too hot.

Thanks, got any reccomendations on heatsinks for the HSF?

Just worried the crappy cheap HSF on the NB might crack or something whenthe fan is on. Maybe I can attach it using tie wraps? Make a big loop with the tie wrap around the HSF and then use the small tie wraps and attach the fan using the fan holes and the base loop, LOL.

Yo can screw them with fan screws, and if they are to big, then try a smaller screw.. but I have installed a couple and the NB stays fine...it will bend slightly but nothing to worry about....
