Antec GX500 Case Help Needed

Hey Mad thanks for your response. I have another issue I was hoping you could help with. I am trying to install my GPU: Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X in the AntecGX500 case and am having a rough time getting the GPU to stay tight. I removed the little window coverings in the back to make room for the GPU and was able to seat the GPU in the motherboard. There are two little holes on the case where the GPU can kind of "rest" on a couple screws I put in. However the screws don't have anything to grip on the opposite side as it is sort of just gripping on the GPU/metal the GPU is sitting on. It appear semi-sturdy but I feel this isn't the correct way. Let me know if you can help

edit: Im currently using the extra tiny button screws that hold down the motherboard for the GPU on it's metal side

no mate you re doing it wrong & using the wrong screws - you should have got a little bag with the case
these are the ones you need (they may well be black with your case) - they are pretty much the biggest screws you will have

haved no screw in before you slot in the gpu.slot the gpu in,make sure it sits flush ,the 2 silver backplates should sit flat on the plate on the back of the case & the card should lock in place in the mb slot ( the clip will lock on at the front of the pci express slot)
now take 2 of those screws & screw them in from the silver (gpu plate) side - this will bolt the gpu plate to the case ( the case pci holes are threaded)

Alright so I screwed those in, however I noticed if I try to tighten to screws on the silver plate it sort of pushes the silver plate and that part of the GPU downward. If I loosen the screws slightly it is kind of snug, and the GPU looks like it is more "straight", but the screws are not fully tightened. Also when the screws get tightened and plate slides down the top most screw isn't gripped on nearly as much as the second one. Let me know what you think.

always happens mate
loosen the screws a little
put a bit of forceon the gpu plates pushing them tight to the backplate (towards the top of the case)
tighten each screw a bit at a time till theyre tight but without the gpu plate sliding too much - its pretty much a matter of experience - you will get them tight though without the plate sliding ( it may still move a tiny bit) trust me
while im here Im guessing that your a prety inexperienced buiulder ( no disrepect meant)
the case should have come with motherboard standoffs prefitted

however a lot of the time they are only preinstalled in a matx configuration & you get a few more in the bag
If youre using a full size board ensure that these are fitted everywhere that the motherboard has a screw hole for screwing down - on no account screw any part of the board down directly to the case without these fitted first
generally matx boards have 6 standoffs/screwholes, atx boards have 8 or 9

Hey yes this is my first build and I am extremely inexperienced. My case came with 6 of the standoffs already connected and I have already screwed the motherboard down into them with the tiny screws. There is one hole on the motherboard that doesn't have this right now as I couldn't figure out which tool you are supposed to use to screw this down. My motherboard ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 has 7 holes, I currently have 6 screwed in, is that enough? I also realized these can be screwed in by hand so I can put the final screw in

An regarding the GPU screws, so you're saying they don't need to be tightened as tight as possible? Just enough to give it a snug enough fit? Because it feels pretty snug right now but does have some wobble if I try to move it gently

sometimes mate,things just dont line up quite right - these things are mass produced & you do get slight variations
as long as your happy the card is pushed fully into its slot & its locked in at the fronr - I would tighten the screw as much as possible personally wihtout the plate sliding all the way out - id rather have it a little cock eyed but solid with no movement than it being loose.
which standoff is missing ?? I see theres 3 holes at the front of the board,3 at the back & one at the top rear If its the right board?

There are 3 holes on the left, then 3 holes on the right that match the left holes. There is then a 7th hole near the left middle hole, the 7th hole is the one not there which should be ok as the other 6 holes are symmetrical on the four corners/middle and the mobo feels very solid

I see now - its the one that's nearly in line with the CMOS silver battery ?? & yep I would consider it the least important to be honest.

Getting late here in the UK mate - are you still having a prob with fitting the optical drive?? As I'll only be around for an hour or so.

Hey Matt thanks again for staying up late to help me. Last questions I have for you right now is related to the power button/led lights for my build. I hooked up everything according to the directions and can manually boot up by shorting the pins on the mobo, but when I plug in the Power SW and try to turn it on using the front case panel it won't boot up. Any suggestions?

Hey Matt thanks again. I got the power/led all hooked up correctly, only thing I have left is the fans. Hopefully you get to see this, but the Antec GX500 comes with the top and rear fans preassembled. Where would be the cord to hook this up to the mobo/what does it look like? It looks like the cords wrap back into the top of the case but there must a power connector somewhere. Let me know if you have any ideas! thank you!

madmatt you are my savior from the other side of the pond :). It looks like I have just about everything hooked up properly. Only thing not in there is that one motherboard standup pin on the 7th hole that you agreed was the least significant as it is just another center hold. I will be sure to send you a PM if I need any other help with this case. Really appreciate all the help!
