Is it okay to try use it? they've barely started their campaign in my hdd. Took 8-10 ants out of it. I can trace their white thingy food also. But of course I cleaned it off. But I never tried to open my hdd. Will it okay to turn it on?

Solution
Usual ants can't pass platter/head enclosure filter neither they would want to do that (nothing edible inside). Your zoo seems made small nest between enclosure and circuit board. Blow them out with compressed air.

Never try to open an HDD yourself. An HDD that has not been tampered with will be hermetically sealed and those ants will have no way to get inside. Just brush or blow them off and you should be okay. Don't apply any pressure to the top while handling it.

Agree with the other posts.

A couple of years ago after heavy rains and cool weather I discovered a nest of ants up under one of my power bricks. Nice, warm, and cozy.....

Just vacuumed up the ants, eggs, etc. and caulked a couple of wall cracks they were using to get inside the house.

Problem infestation ended.
