all the X games, aka X2 and X3 space sims...

i think company of heroes, does too??

many of these games simply use the second monitor as a radar, and the first for playing, its really quite good in Supcom.

Supcom is probably the best I've found in that it doesn't just use the 2nd monitor for radar, stats, or whatever. It acts like a second battleground display you can position anywhere either zoomed out to a full field overlay, or zoomed in to keep your eye on a pathway you're defending while you're off somewhere else on your main screen.

that sounds sweet, wish more games had this feature.

I think most companies treat it like higher resolutions in that they wouldn't want to allow any extra content to be displayed for the people that have it, because it might be construed as an unfair advantage. :(

I have also played SupCom on dual screen and didn't like it. If there is only 1 screen, when the mouse pointer reach one of the edges, the map will scroll. However, with 2 screens, my mouse pointer will move over to my 2nd screen and hence, I can only scroll the map in 3 directions - and not the one that joins with another screen.

How do you overcome that?

use the arrow keys with your left hand... in every rts i play i use the arrow keys to look around, i find that i have more precise control over it, and in most cases is faster than the mouse.

But then why wouldn't they tone down the graphics across the board because some people may still have older video cards and CPUs? No, I suspect the reason we don't see those sorts of features is that the vast majority of people aren't running dual-monitor setups. Yet.

This thread is a year old ffs.

Indeed it is, and as the OP hasnt looged in in 5 months I doubt its much help to them.

However Ive benefitted from this topic, I never knew the X-series supported multiple monitors. I have just started feeling like playing them a bit again, and now Im going to have to find a second monitor and space to fit said second monitor to see how that plays out :D

Not often that I get any benefit from the regular threadomancy here.

im just wondering whats the difference of playing i game in a dual monitor to the one playing a single monitor...

i guess im already ok in using single monitor because the monitor that i used has flat, slim and i've got a wide screen too ^^

Some games have a lot of "stat" information or a lot of UI clutter that buries the action, like flight sims, you want your dash board on one display and your canopy view on another, or if you have the triple head device and three monitors you can go for "surround" gaming. Theres lots of very good reasons for wanting multiple monitors, its not normally about wishing you had a bigger screen.

My current main monitor is a widescreen as well, alas that doesnt really mean much as its only 1680x1050, so it fits just over half as much "information" on it than my old CRT at 2048x1536. I prefer gaming on the CRT from an image quality point of view but form has triumphed over function and my old CRT wouldnt work with my new workstation. Even with the huge amount I could fit on that CRT I STILL see the point in seperating out across two screen the information you want.

The X-series of games I mentioned can be a real pain to play I have an old saved game where I have over 100 stations and several hundered space ships to guide around keeping the business management \ Fleet control on a monitor to the side whilst keeping my main screen clear for the front windscreen on the ship Im flying in real time would be really great :D

If you want to get a Dualhead2Go or Triplehead2go there is somewhat of an extensive list of titles that will allow you to play across 2 or 3 monitors. Not a huge list but around 50? I forget but I know that Oblivion is one of the games on the list.

I just got my first proper dual monitor setup, running at 2280X900. I have tried a few games so far but by far the best is "STCC The Game 2". A Driving sim very similar to TOCA, I would still like to hear of other games if anyone wants to renew this thread with dual setups being more popular.
