Any ideas?

I have just upgraded my graphics card with an ASUS/nVidia n6600 AGP card. On playing WoW and Oblivion, the game locks up and freezes. WoW causes bluescreens.

My PC was a non brand PC built with Pentium 4 processor in 2000. The two things I can think of that might cause the crashes are the motherboard (I suspect is a piece of crap) and the power supply. This card requires 300w and I doubt I have that.

Does anyone have any ideas? Which of the above two would most likely cause the spikes/freezes I'm receiving? Or is it something else?

If your PC never crashed before with the older video card, then my guess is that you are over taxing your power supply (PSU).

Open up your case and look that the sticker on the PSU, it will tell you how much total power and how much power for the 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails.

If you have a weak power supply then you'll need to buy a new one. Assuming you have an ATX case you can get the following PSU which has been review by a hardware site:

XClio 450BL 450W Power Supply

Xlico PSU Review

A relatively unknown brand, but it has a very good review.

You can go by word of mouth, or you can go by hardware reviews. the choice is yours.
