Any point in r9 290 crossfire setup if using a 60hz monitor?

Hi, I've got a crossfire setup (R9 290) and I've recently purchased an ASUS p278q monitor to enjoy a higher resolution (1440p). I've noticed that a single R9 290 can handle most games that I play (Titanfall, Bf4, d3) and can run them on max setting at close to/at 60 fps which is the refresh rate of the monitor.

To really take advantage of the crossfire setup I have to turn v-synch off however that causes screen tearing so I was wondering if there is much point to having the second r9 290 card or if there is any way of fixing the screen tearing issue when v-synch is turned off.

Cheers

When the framerate is measured higher than the refresh, that's how many frames your GPU is producing, but anything above the monitor's refresh is chopped out by the monitor before you see it. So no, it can't go higher than the refresh rate. Yes, your fps is capped at 60.

Oh ok so effectively my fps is capped at 60 frames? The reason why I ask is that I had a 1080p 120hz monitor before and the fps counter in bf4 would go as high as 180 so i thought the fps can go higher than the refresh rate...

Thanks for the explanation mate, I didn't think I needed the additional card until I fired up Metro Last Light! I think I will keep the second card to ensure that I can run future games at 60fps.
