It's been a great week! I am very satisfied with my current allocation and workflow.
I now have two SATA 3 SSDs in RAID 0 - 1TB (512gb x 2) using my two slot Intel C602 controller on the board.
And I also have second - four SATA 3 SSDs in RAID 0 1TB (240gb x 4) using four slots of my Marvell controller on the board.
I am soooo happy with my current 4K workflow and playback its such a shame I wasn't bright enough to learn this bandwidth before.
Now, my current Kingston HyperX M.2 NVMe 240gb PCIe SSD (HHHL) is running Windows 10 and the programs on my PCIE 3.0 x 4 slot...
I was reading that for boot and even idle program performance that I wouldn't see any difference between a reliable 120gb SATA 3 SSD on a SATA 2 slot vs the HyperX for just running Windows 10 and Adobe Programs. All my media files are on the RAID 0 drives anyways as I do heavy 4K plus video files and color correction.
Therefore, can I install Windows 10 on a standard SSD and maybe a second SSD for the applications? These would be on my SATA 2 slots since I no longer have any SATA 3 slots available as they are all occupied by RAID 0 configurations. So I have four SATA 2 slots available.
I was thinking I can use the remaining for in this allocation and I would like acknowledgment:
SATA 2 - A: Windows 10 Boot
SATA 2 - B: Programs
SATA 2 - C: Cache
SATA 2 - D: Audio Files
and thus the only thing that would occupy my PCIE slot x 16 is my GTX 1080 ti.
Any advice? I find the prices for 120gb SSDs for four should be in the ball park of 160 bucks total which isn't bad. I could even sell my Kingston HyperX M.2 240gb and put that money into the SATA 2 configuration. Is this a good idea?
