I downloaded the whole package from their site, not just the base
package, for Univ. I had the pre-Univ version and liked it a lot, even
though it was not as elaborate as this new version.

Anyway, I'm experiencing a little frustration. Even though I have the
complete set of workers in some houses (maid, housekeeper, gardener,
chef, etc.) they often just sit around and watch TV or lounge in the hot
tub when there are messes to be cleaned up or dinner to be made or
hedges to be clipped. They seem more intent on having a good time and
yaking with my guests than with actually WORKING.

Anyone else have this issue? Sometimes I even use the magic mirror
cheat to make them do things they should autonomously do themselves.
But if on the way to the kitchen to cook, they, say, pass the hot tub or
the wall TV, the command to work disappears and they slack instead.

Grrrrrr....You can't get good help these days. In the future, I might
suggest that their ability to use the hot tub and watch TVs be disabled.

Isn't there supposed to be a manager that comes with them who whips them
into shape?

Read about it, didn't like the idea, personally.

Not with a whip, but yes, there is. She's usually watching TV with the
rest of them. All she does is tell them when to go to bed!

Sheesh!

Yeah, the DMA Sims thing is a good idea, and well done considering the
circumstances, but inherently flawed because of it's complexity and
that it's not made by Maxis... that, and the fact that they are always
the same people, no respawns, can't fall in love with them, and that
it makes my game crash, is why I decided not to buy the VIP package.

And I still haven't given up hope that Nightlife will supply us with a
butler, and a nanny that doesn't make a million exceptions...

I haven't had this problem, I only hired the cook and the housekeeper.
They still use the hot tub and watch TV, but not if there is any work
to be done. The exception is when there is something to be repaired,
they have to be influenced to do that.

You could also try the cook from variousimmers, she will do everything
including the kid's homework.

Remember that the DMA sims will only work as advertised if you have no
other hacks in the game. My Sim fell in love with the manager, they
even had a baby.

Yes, so I went to making my own maid, creating her own apartment using
the apartment stuff at simlogical, and that works really great, in fact
I just added the macro program from variousimmers and can now choose
'macro clean' and she automatically goes through and cleans the whole
house.

I just moved the babysitter in with Nina Caliente and the kids, and I
can't say I'm terribly impressed by her. Honestly, I'm thinking the
Nanny did better work, although thankfully Nicole doesn't prank as much
as the nanny. But, baby is screaming, leaving trails of flies
everywhere, and Nicole decides that it's time for a bottle.

She's my first worker NPC since installing the dma pack so not sure if
it'll happen with other workers yet.

I prefer the one by christianlov from modthesims2. It's a stove (and
various other mods) that brings in an NPC that cleans, cooks, answers the
phone, does homework, etc.

Have you tried asking them to move in?

Yeah, well, mine usually decides it's time for a dip in the pool.

Funny thing is, in the old version, before I installed Univ., she did a
decent job of caring for kids. That's why I had such high hopes.

I'm checking this out, thanks. For the barista, what does the
instruction mean, "You need the collection file with which you can place
a community item in residential lots"?

The Barista uses the espresso coffee bar which you can only have on
community sites - at least in the straight game. You need to either make a
home lot with community objects pre-installed (i.e. before you move the
family in) using the changeLotZoning cheat or you need to find - or make - a
collection which makes the community coffee bar available in buy mode on
your home lots. There's a tutorial (and I believe several collections)
available at Mod the Sims 2.

Best wishes
Maxon

Yes, but of course moving in and marriage have no effect, which is
mentioned in the DMA NPC info page http://www.valdea.com/?page=1. It
doesn't crash the game though.

It crashes my game both when they proposed marriage/move in, or fall
in love or get a crush :-\

Oh yeah...check over on the binaries group to see what my DMAs are doing
while the bosses are at work.

Thanks. How does one use the changeLotZoning cheat to do this and are
there any adverse effects of using the cheat?

--
--Cuth

Archived from groups: alt.games.the-sims (More info?)

It's just a cheat which goes:

changeLotZoning community/residential/dorm/secretsociety/greek (delete as
appropriate)

You type it in when you are in the lot, save and exit and when you next try
to enter the lot you should notice that it's now whatever you changed it to.
HOWEVER, it will only work in (pre-)build mode - if you have sims already in
residence on the lot, you can't use it, so don't try. It's a game cheat, so
it's less likely to screw up your game (i.e. the game is designed to work
with it).

What you can do is this:

1. Place a new residential lot and enter it.
2. Go into the lot and use the changeLotZoning community cheat.
3. Save and exit.
4. When you get back into the neighbourhood screen you should now see a
blue-coded community lot - that is if the cheat has worked, enter the lot.
5. Place the things you will need from the community buy catalogues (in your
case the coffee machine although one I like to use is the pay phone for
blocks of flats and dorms and also the rubbish bin (trash can, if you're
American)).
6. Use the changeLotZoning cheat (changeLotZoning residential - get the
capitalisation right as the cheats don't work for most people if you don't).
7. Save and exit.
8. When you get back to the neighbourhood screen, you should see that the
lot has now become a green-coded residential lot. When you go back into the
lot, you will then have the residential buy catalogues available to you.
9. Finish building your place and voila: a residential lot with community
lot objects installed.

I tend to prefer this method, even though it is a bit fiddly, because the
collections method involves a custom hack using SimPE and while many hacks
are now stable I prefer to avoid things the game isn't specifically designed
to handle. It just minimises the risk or corruption.

Best wishes
Maxon

So, far, I've done it several times with no ill effects but only on campus
to create a dorm. Get the uni commercial tools at home collection from
modthesims2 and you can use the commercial items at home or in a home on
campus. http://www.snootysims.com/sims2cheats.php for the cheat and the bar
and coffee bar are here:
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=48729&highlight=community+residential .
Hope this helps.
